WTB: Cheapest colo in Serbia/Russia

Hi,

I'm looking for the cheapest possible colocation in Serbia or Russia.

Server:

Supermicro SYS-1018R-WR
1U
X10SRW-F
Xeon E5-2667v4
RTX A4000 16GB

Requirements:

Power consumption: up to 400W
1x IPv4 or IPv6 (either is fine)
At least 10/10 Mbps connectivity
24/7 power and network
Remote reboot would be nice, but not required.

I'm mainly looking for the lowest monthly price. Small providers, local ISPs, or private datacenters are perfectly fine.

Are you able to import this server to Russia? You heard about the war and sanctions right? Are you sure that Nvidia card is not o the exprt sanction list?

Serbia no issue, id just use SBB http://sbb.rs

Serbian commercial power is now expensive, this will cost you like just 25% less than France (or 50% less than Germany).

As far as I understand, the sanctions mainly target businesses and exports to legal entities. In my case, this would be a personal server for hobby/self-hosting use. The GPU I mentioned was just an example anyway, and I'll double-check the export restrictions before buying any hardware.

I'm also not planning to ship a server into Russia. The used server market there is pretty cheap, so I'd simply buy the hardware locally.

For reference, I've already received a couple of colo quotes:

• Moscow: $32/mo for 1U, up to 800W included, 100 Mbps, 1 IPv4, plus 2 hours of remote hands per month included.
• Another provider in Russia: $6/mo for 1U, power charged separately at $0.13/kWh. Basic Internet and 1 IPv4 are included. No remote hands, except they'll press the reset button for free if the server locks up.

Still looking around, but it's interesting to see how inexpensive colo can be there.

You are wrong. The EU customs service will most likely confiscate your server if you attempt delivery it to Russia.

Depends on the hardware. Lots of outdated rust available in Russia. Won't do business with them but if you're weak, it's very cheap.

Yeah, probably, I personally don't have a clue either, only got this info second hand and my personal lack of cyrillic abilities certainly don't put me in a position to check it. I am sure that person is somewhat knowledgeable to at least tell me that reliably enough.

But we didn't talk about like mesozoic era components, it was rather recent stuff

The RU used market is one generation behind at minimum but the cheap power as you noticed can balance this out - you will find like HP DL360 with E5 v2 CPUs, even some damn X5690s and old i7s, stuff that runs fine but is just not economical in places like EU or worth the cost to ship to like Iceland.

6$ is really a new low though, hell id colo a used Macbook for that, USB Ethernet is fine really for Gbit

For the right price (zero actually, tickets and some food, its an adventure!) i will get your server to Moscow safely and SORT OF legal, but i need at least one stop over and cannot book as one ticket/trip (so need to enter country or at least change flight manually).

Not an actual offer but it really sounds harder than it is with a stop in Serbia, KZ or similar.
Importing customs will suck though, it might be anything from free to based on NEW hardware value.

Sounds like a business opportunity. This time, it's not limited to $300K

As one sanctioned individual i can tell you don't believe anything - especially nothing the State Department says - and get a really good lawyer for such things nowadays. It can get very ugly.

If you can get around RU import taxes - aka know and bribe the right people - and manage to ship a container of almost ewaste from BargainHardware to Russia you definitely can make a few bucks. But its not worth it.

AI says a standard container will fit 350 1U servers in standard boxes like HP DL360s.
It also says a DL360 G9 (55EUR base) with 2 E5-2680 v4 (28 x 2.4/3.3Ghz x 2 = 35000 bench at 35EUR for 2), 128GB RAM for 325EUR and like 100EUR for 4 SAS HDDs or 200EUR for 2 SSDs == ~500-600EUR each, 12mo amortisation = 45EUR, Colo etc. = 20EUR at good deal, needs 1A power only, profit should be 15-20% so final rental price would be around 75-80EUR/mo (10EUR profit ca.).
If you sell them you might be able to get 750EUR per box right now but thats mostly random hardware i found for sale and compared across generations by passmark per cent cost.
150EUR per server profit, 350 in a container = 52k before shipping or any bribes or "taxes" anywhere along the route

You might get sanctioned, and the transaction is definitely money laundry because its literally proceeds from a crime, all that for 52k i have to finance ahead and wait for sales possibly long time... no, thanks.

If you have LEGIT 50k laying around rather put it into Nvidia, TSMC and ASML plus few others and easily get a 10% yearly return.

If its not legit money... you can deal with other things than servers, y' know?
