This Time, I Updated LET's Footer Without Blowing Up the Site

Back in 2024 I updated the copyright date in the footer and blew up LET.

Last year chickened out I guess because I apparently just hard-coded it again.

This year, I put in a proper Smarty template call to date.format so it will update automatically from now on. And I did it live, in production, without testing, using the YOLO development method. 🤘

I'm sure this was a tremendous concern for all of you so I thought I'd share

Thanks for @zmeu for pointing out that our footer was out of date.

Aren't copyright notices mostly aesthetics at this point anyways? To be fair i vaguely remember that it supposedly still has some slight meaning in the US legal system but for the most part it should have become obsolete with the US joining Berne?

It's not required for a work to be copyrighted (which happens automatically upon its creation), but it is helpful for identifying who owns the copyright.

It's not required for a work to be copyrighted (which happens automatically upon its creation), but it is helpful for identifying who owns the copyright.

That's true. How helpful it will be to know that LowEndTalk is owned by... LowEndTalk... is still somewhat debatable though
