My monitoring VPS for my monitoring VPS is down. I have already lost millions.

Same here. Tested just now — both littlecreekhosting.com and littlecreeksolutions.com are failing at the DNS level. curl returns "Could not resolve host", so it's not just the web server being down, the domains flat out won't resolve.

That's a bit more worrying than a simple server crash. Expired domain? Nameservers nuked? Hopefully it's just a registrar hiccup and not something worse.

It looks like some prefixes that were originally announced by Cogent are being withdrawn.

38.45.64.0/22 Is such example. Check the DNS behind that prefix.

    is this the end?

Well… I imagine Cogent told them exactly why or this was requested…

Either way… it’s not in the routing table and there’s going to be a very big surprise at the end of this.

Maybe a router outage. Wonder if cogent broke something..

    Good thought.

Just had a message from LittleCreekHosting and it is apparently Cogent maintenance that is causing the disruption.

I just spoke with Cogent and confirmed that the outage is related to scheduled maintenance. Unfortunately, we did not receive any prior notification regarding this maintenance window. Their team is actively working to complete the work, and service is expected to be restored within the next couple of hours.

    That’s a bit shit.

RIPE stat shows 38.45.64.0/22 (and also 38.45.71.0/24) is only visible for 79/326 RIS peers: https://stat.ripe.net/data/routing-status/data.json?resource=38.45.64.0/22. The VPSs and the authoritative DNS are all within those subnets.

  • Whew! Thank you for the update!

Maybe @LittleCreek could post a little something here, so we all won't flood himself with our questions???

well, Cogent has been always known for being one of the shittiest Tier 1 ISPs. AFAIK they used to overload their network (surely they still do)

I did not receive any notifications either or else I would have shared them here.

7 times downtime in first half of June. WTF! Still another 14 days are remaining. You can expect downtime similar to May 96% - and thats bad even for shared web hosting.

Well it’s still shit to not provide any notice of maintenance and honestly I would be both fuming and asking for a “please fucking explain.”

A few months ago, it also went down for about an hour in the middle of the night.

It's possible that was an issue affecting only your VM or the host node it was running on. I don't believe it was related to the maintenance event we're dealing with today.

  • Clint1980Clint1980 Member

well it is what it is. Sometimes shit happens. @LittleCreek any update on ETA for the servers being restored again? Any sort of timeline would be welcome, so we can all inform our customers, partners etc.

Unfortunately, I don't have any additional details beyond what Cogent provided. The only ETA I was given is that the maintenance window is scheduled to end at 6:00 AM EDT. Hopefully service will begin returning before then, but I don't have any confirmation of that.

Thanks for keeping us updated here when the site was down.

I have been a customer for a long time, and I have never had many issues with your service going down. I am guilty of not load balancing my sites, so I was getting a little worried. I was going of of town for the rest of the week and of course when these things happen it always happens at the worse moments.

Yes you may not have that fastest connection or servers. Other vps providers come and go on here. Overall I have had great service with littlecreekhosting for years, and hopefully I will for even more years to come.

Yes I want 100% uptime, but that is not a true reality. I just need a 2nd vps that is half as good a littlecreekhosting, every time I start the process of vetting other providers to setup for redundancy I end up canceling the other services because of bad ; latency, packet loss, server stability, overall bandwidth and service / support while troubleshooting.

Long story short. Thanks for your services and the updates you gave while their where issues.
