Speed Test Files - 1,300+ Locations
I thought I'd share something that I found earlier.
I found that speedtest.net keeps a list of all the servers/locations available for people to test on the site.
They have files of different sizes (240KB, 494KB, 1.1MB, 1.9MB, 4.3MB, 7.5MB, 12MB, 17MB, 23MB, 30MB) that you could use to test download speeds from different locations on a server.
List: http://speedtest.net/speedtest-servers.php
The files are at /speedtest/ like this:
random350x350.jpg = 240KB random500x500.jpg = 494KB random750x750.jpg = 1.1MB random1000x1000.jpg = 1.9MB random1500x1500.jpg = 4.3MB random2000x2000.jpg = 7.5MB random2500x2500.jpg = 12MB random3000x3000.jpg = 17MB random3500x3500.jpg = 23MB random4000x4000.jpg = 30MB
I've made a list that is updated once per day:

Example:
ISP: Comcast Location: Seattle, WA, United States/US 240KB: http://sto-rvlt-01.sys.comcast.net/speedtest/random350x350.jpg 494KB: http://sto-rvlt-01.sys.comcast.net/speedtest/random500x500.jpg 1.1MB: http://sto-rvlt-01.sys.comcast.net/speedtest/random750x750.jpg 1.9MB: http://sto-rvlt-01.sys.comcast.net/speedtest/random1000x1000.jpg 4.3MB: http://sto-rvlt-01.sys.comcast.net/speedtest/random1500x1500.jpg 7.5MB: http://sto-rvlt-01.sys.comcast.net/speedtest/random2000x2000.jpg 12MB: http://sto-rvlt-01.sys.comcast.net/speedtest/random2500x2500.jpg 17MB: http://sto-rvlt-01.sys.comcast.net/speedtest/random3000x3000.jpg 23MB: http://sto-rvlt-01.sys.comcast.net/speedtest/random3500x3500.jpg 30MB: http://sto-rvlt-01.sys.comcast.net/speedtest/random4000x4000.jpg
Which of course can be used like this:
wget http://sto-rvlt-01.sys.comcast.net/speedtest/random4000x4000.jpg -O /dev/null
You probably shouldn't over-use them, especially the ones in countries where bandwidth is expensive, but they're donating the servers to speed tests anyway.
Comments
Some of the servers don't provide accurate results, which is something I've hated about speedtest.net, some of them are just overloaded so give consistently low results etc.
Thanks for sharing though
I find this very useful
404 not found.
Try other links.
That ones maybe are bad formed
Try now.
I don't know why but no link is working?
It should be fixed now.
Or, feel free to use http://c.speedtest.net/mini.zip to max out the bandwidth. EdgeCast CDN.
