Kimsufi RAM locking

barbarzabarbarza Member

I've seen on the OVH site, to now order some Kimsufi servers with 32 GB RAM (base) instead of upgrade with 64GB you need to get a callback from an advisor. Especially with the KS-2.

Anyone know whats going on?

Maybe the less popular/less ordered servers with more RAM are idling to long so they are making them built to order or similar so they can sell more of the default/lower RAM setups, complete guess i have no idea

But yeah, strange on the eco lines..

The whole eco ordering process changed. Since a few weeks/months you can (at the website and api) only order what is actually build already and set in the rack in the dc. So no more "wait 72h" and we'll put two extra rams in there to up it from 32 to 64.

So ordering process is "live inventory" based on built systems and not inventory based on parts available that could be build into a system.

Surely that means the end of the lotto upgrades if that’s how they’re monitoring/tracking inventory

you still can be lucky i think in them not "de-building" upgraded systems (e.g. 4x4 TB disks instead of 4x2 TB). Or an E-2236 CPU instead of E-2136 in SYS-1.

Also luck can be network upgrades (but those can be gone in a day as well if you have them)

But I would not gamble on systems like the KS-5-A that has lots of options and expect disk upgrades.

Imagine the total € value of the lotto memory in all KS servers generation zero profit.
