Can confirm.
buyvm is a small budget company. They cant eat the costs like big players could, e.g DO or Vultr.
Well, to be fair, we use BuyVM for production stuff for IncogVPN and IncogDNS. Have a /24 split between their 4 POPs so we can use a /26 in each one.
The VMs aren't just for play or whatever.
People complaining but BuyVM offers some features many others don't. BGP, split networking, routed v6 for the v6 elitist and nerds, slab storage, unmetered bandwidth, snapshots, etc.
For that price point, for the features, even the increase isn't bad.
But why use a LET provider priced about the same as AWS?
Because the idea!
does AWS do unmetered traffic?
MJJs seem to mostly be attracted to buyvm because of that.
Chayana numbah oanh
Alibaba cloud FTW only
If adventurous feeling sinks in, OCI
It's sad, but it can't be helped.
As far as I know, BuVM has indeed not increased in price for many years. I have a KVM Slice 1024MB that is almost about to arrive in 3 months, I am about to get 10Gbps unlimited bandwidth, and I still have a dozen dollars in my account limit, so I don't know if I can renew it in advance
I don't know what rock I've been living under but I had no idea you left. Now I don't feel bad cancelling my services there. lol
If someone is throwing their towels on a NY 512MB ram hit me up
Ill take it
they did not raise the price for the additional storage slice? that's nice.
You want them to? I am sure they'd like to
Slabs, ips, ddos ips, all got left alone. Just VMs.
Licenses that were free stay free. Cpanel and WHMCS get corrections as webpros dictates.
Francisco
I appreciate your transparency, @Francisco . I look at long-term value and trust, not just price.
@Francisco I'll pay $500 for his servers, last honest guy here.
my price went from $3.50 to $4.50
well not something huge. but okay if dc has increased prices.
I don’t know, but what I do know is that BuyVM does not. It’s just a markething thing. There has been numbers on how much traffic they allow per GB of RAM going around in their Discord and here on LET AFAIK
Those numbers that float around are just what the plan is "entitled" to but it's fair use as everything unlimited/unmetered around here is.
They're quite chill about it, I've pushed fairly far beyond those numbers and they've never blinked. Only seen people get throttled when it causes an issue for the node.
So those who get throttled accidentally used more than unlimited/unmetered?
I don’t think this is possible
TAIWAN NUMBER ONE
Can’t tell if joke or that I worded it like shit, but just meant they do fair use unmetered and those numbers aren’t a hard limit. More MJJ suitable than AWS.
More so a criticism of the industry.
Common sense tells me:
This isn't me throwing shit at BuyVM, they just do what everyone else is doing, but it is quite shit that it's normalized to just say words that it isn't.
That too is kool
To me, sending an e-mail explaining that your costs have gone up by around 15%, and using that to justify a 30% increase isn't a great look IMHO.
I suspect I'll probably end up letting mine go - I've had BuyVM for years because I always wanted to fill out the anycast set, but because actually getting them all is so hard I still only have ex-LUX, ex-NL, now-CH. With this rise, it'll be one of my most expensive EU servers whilst also one of the least powerful.
Is it though?
I don’t condone the practice of new customers getting better deals, over old customer’s unless of course prices are permanent from purchase date.
It’s going to decrease new customer acquisition, while also loosing a % of there existing customer base.
Price increase should have been reasonable, to all and not of effected people with long-standing services, nothing makes a customer feel so little, offended, and loose pride in there choice.
Wonder if they considered a general price increase, that did not affect existing customers and what convinced them not to do it? sure less % profit in the long short-term, but consistent loyal customers that would die for your brand, and defend new prices? confusing to me, people collecting BuyVM like Pokémon for a lot of cases for the sake of it wouldn’t want to loose this sort of fanbase.
I dropped my last one as soon as I realized I didn't actually need unmetered anymore a few years back. The prices haven't been competitive for a long time anyway and billing treating you like a criminal by default was always off-putting.
New owner is probably looking to make some money back off the purchase and how long has it been since LET was the target demo anyway?
It's a reasonable limit. It's inflation occurring. DC's are going for the big players, hyper-scalers, so they don't really bother negotiating much on a customer that's not willing to pay super premium.
BuyVM is totally worth it. A solid company, backed by experts who know what they're doing.
Plus, Fran is just awesome.
He sold the company
Can I get your server? If anyone else also cancels their BuyVM I am also happy to hear you in my DMs
Are the rare promo plans ($10 semi annual 512mb) going up too?
