I'm on that Hostbrr storage box right now. Mapped it as a drive but I'd rather just use FTP. Getting like 8 MB/s which is cool with me.

I use them both. It really depends on your usecase / expectations. Both are performing great. I have a Jellyfin cluster with four member servers (KS-LE-B for the win). For that usecase I would choose Hostbrr over Layer7, but only due to the fact, that I am interested in the cheapest and yet performing storage for my Linux ISO collection (lots of 4k ISOs ~about 600). So far I've had no major issues with Hostbrr. I have 10TB at Layer 7 (I think this was the Summer 2025 promo offer) and 40-50TB at Hostbrr (at this point I dont want to count).
Using this setup since ~18 months. For me Layer7 was more stable regarding IO speeds. That being said, Hostbrr is still performing great. I do tend to push Linux ISOs in waves of 700GB-1TB, so for me it does not matter, if I have to wait 2 1/2 or 3 hours. Hostbrr has greater CPU performance and uses newer hardware, so I am able to offload some small tasks on those VPS (could do the same with my Layer 7 VPS, but fuck that old ass Xeon Gold). Whilst I've had some small issues at Hostbrr (each issue was resolved within two hours max), I've never, ever had one single issue with my Layer 7 VPS. Both guys are great, both services feel great. In the end it comes down to good, old money.

Tl;dr: If you just want to have some storage space, go with Hostbrr.
