Hi,
I am looking for a dedicated server to set up plex media with transcoding.
Looking for a server with the largest possible storage capacity.
Only NL/Germany
Budget 90 euro/m

With this budget you could buy a nice storage dedicated server from @NetDynamics24 (in Germany).
You would have the dedicated cores so that's good for transcoding use-case.

Alternatively, you may look at @layer7 who also offers storage VDS servers in Germany which have better CPUs (but are not dedis).

  • What is the point in setting up a Plex server these days when several debris services are available?

  • Check out seedhost. They have some good storage servers.

Boomers exist who can barely use a TV remote. Plex is just easier for them to use when you share your server with them.

  • check hostingby.design, been with them for my plex media almost 2 years now

Check the plan for 93 euros in storage line, 4x10tb hdd + 1tb nvme

If you want the king for transcoding with 1tb nvme then this would work best

    Worldstream Ryzen 9 5900X 94 euros.

    No. Private.

  • Hetzner + Hetzner Storage Box + Proxy = undefeated

The first one looks good but it is 1Gbps. I search for

if trans-coding is your main goal, you will need either something with Intel QuickSync Video (QSV) - an here I recommend @PulsedMedia , as I recall he did have something with 10'th gen intel CPU's that have QSV

    or

    Dedi with Nvidia/INTEL Graphics.

Judging by your budged, you wish to trans-code a lot of streams , so a "Strong" cpu might not handle that very good.

Latency wise, you can go as high as 60-80ms, so you can extend your search radius further, plex handles latency much better then jellyfin.

If ( and i will underline IF here ) you will only transcode 2-4 streams, then even a VDS with 4 vCores ( GB6 score 1000/vcore minimum ) will do fine.

And here comes the bigger IF

    Trans-coding 1080P to 720p is a easy task :+1:

Trans-coding 4K to 1080p or 720p is a no go for most DDR4 platforms, eve if you hit it with 3.4GHz, it is about the number of pixels that need to be converted and 4K vs 1080P is a totally different task, here a GPU will shine. Ohm if I add 4K HDR to 1080P, well, poor CPU.... you get the idea. ( not good :D )

If we are talking about 1080P source format to whatever alse as destination, we have some storage VPS services that might accommodate your needs as the are on XSG2, but will not keep up 8x 4K HDR trans-code to 720P.

You can add vcores at check out or after purchase.

    Cheers! and Happy Hunting!
