Looking for alternatives to netcup after recent price hike

ThundasThundas Member
edited March 24 in Requests

I'm seeking alternative Virtual Dedicated Server or bare metal options following a price hike on my Netcup root server which will be €79 per month. My Netcup server is located in the US, and while I'm not looking for identical specifications, I need a reliable host. Automatic backups would be a significant plus.

Current netcup specs paying monthly full price without discount at 66.96 euros before price hike.

AMD EPYC™ 9645
64 GB DDR5 RAM (ECC)
16 dedicated cores
2 TB NVMe
Snapshots (Copy-On-Write)

I know its unrealistic to expect the same resources i would get at netcup & im not sure what to look out for so here's what I'm looking for in terms of specifications:

  • CPU: 4 or more?
  • RAM: 16GB or more?
  • Storage: NVMe storage of 500GB or more as my sites are image heavy. (Currently 300gb+)?
  • US location (Most of my users based in the us)
  • VDS or Bare Metal

I value stability over all else, as that is what i have promised my users when i launched the community 7 years ago.

I am running mainly a niche community php forum site since 2018, a nextcloud instance (hpb & nextcloud office backend docker) with around 20 active staff users. Budget will be similar to what i am paying for netcup.

No shared hosting please, if you offer automatic offsite backups, that would be great but if you dont, please do have something i can purchase as an addon.

Are you looking for dedicated server or vps?
Are you looking for something in US or EU?

    Dallas, Texas
    8 Cores (Ryzen/Epyc)
    32GB RAM DDR5
    480GB NVMe
    30 TB @ 5Gbps
    DDoS Protection
    $47 USD/month
Can upgrade at the same rate if needed.
    Normal plans

Send me a message or email [email protected] if you're interested. Won't be able to do it if stock gets lower, but Dallas typically has the most space available. It's not a VDS for dedicated cores but I'm guessing you won't be pegging 8 cores 24/7 by hosting a web server and some containers so it won't matter. (or if you prefer I could give you higher priority on an older Epyc that has more cores and a slower CPU clockrate.)

Looks like 66 eur is about 77 USD which gives you a pretty solid budget with current sales.
I would definitely take advantage of some of the active offers before it gets sold out.

If Tampa doesn't work, @SolidVPS will be doing deals in other locations soon.

For that budget, you may also could consider getting one of OVH RISE servers that come with Ryzen. It looks like if you have Canada or EU account, there is no setup fee.

Here's roughly two times bigger VDS for roughly two times less the money from an established provider:

im not sure what to look out for

There are other, bigger and smaller offers: 6dc/24GB/1500GB is $23, 4dc/16GB/1TB is $16, etc. (all v2 KVM Fat).
If 1 TB NVMe is enough, the same config as above is $22 (v2 KVM Slim - smaller disk) - check those yourself.

please do have something i can purchase as an addon

For backups you can get a completely separate VM for $5:

Will be a different server for sure, enough space for some other backups as well, e.g. your personal ones.

The location is basically Eastern border, 5-7 ms to New York.

/ should you be ordering, turn off your VPN first /
