One Year Review Of My Free Linveo Ryzen 9 9950X NetBSD VPS In Arizona!

Hello!

One year ago today, Linveo gave me a free 2 vCore, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB VPS in their Arizona location.

What I have been doing on the VPS is following NetBSD-current and pkgsrc-current.

Every few days I check the NetBSD current-users mailing list, update the sources for the main system and the packages, and then recompile everything.

I have been using and self-compiling NetBSD (and other open source operating systems) occasionally since the 1990s. I like having the source code available with just a cd in case I want to look at something. I like knowing that I actually am running on the living code from the /usr/src directory. It's great never having to bother upgrading from one major release to the next. Last but not least, when I very occasionally talk with the developers, they seem more interested because I am talking about the current sources.

My Linveo box has been completely dependable. At the beginning there was a small issue with backups not completing, but that issue was resolved very quickly by Linveo, and I haven't seen any more trouble at all.

Of course, being 9950X, the VPS is very fast! And it works well!

I know that Linveo is selling different types of inexpensive Intel and AMD VPSes on several offer threads here on LET, so I would encourage everyone to consider Linveo's offerings. Of course, Linveo has lots of Linux operating systems available in addition to their BSD offers. Besides NetBSD, I have had Linux and other BSDs also working well on my VPS from time to time.

For what it's worth, Linveo did not ask me to write a review. They havcen't seen what I am writing, either. Yes, I did get the VPS for free, but there weren't any conditions attached.

To me, Linveo seems very nice! Any issue gets addressed quickly and carefully. Linveo has gone out of their way for me, providing more disk space than their standard offering, making available special OS images from @cmeerw <3, and introducing me to other people who might seem able to help me.

I guess this review is kind of boring! But maybe this kid of boring might be the best possible review?

I am really, really glad to have my Linveo VPS, and I look forward to continuing to use it! Thank you Linveo and @lnx! <3 Best wishes! <3

@Not_Oles thanks for the review! We appreciate all of the help testing the NetBSD images and glad we could provide them for those looking for alternative options in the market for operating systems!
