At a guess, their prices reflect actually committing that much network resource to you. Their pricing seems to be roughly $70 x Gbps unmetered, which is in line with what I've read for the wholesale price for bandwidth. When you see prices significantly below that, they're probably assuming that customers won't actually be using all the bandwidth all the time and just hoping it works out.
Its complicated. There is many more factors. - Depends on where your customers send/receive traffic from. In our case alot of traffic can be sent alot (i think over 40%) sent via peering and IXP which is why we are onboarding more peering at the moment before getting more transit again. That will lower your average price per mbit. All in all depends on the customers you have too. Getting alot of ddos would bump that up too. ... or having alot of traffic for networks like... DTAG?
Also when you buy bigger commits of transit at tier1's the prices start dropping down drastically.
In NIKHEF you have some Free IXes like Frysix or Interix. Who both offer free 100G ports ...or very cost efficient ones like ERAIX.
100G FrysIX costs nothing and has Hurricane Electric on there. 600G. So you exchange traffic to HE for basically nothing.
Hurricane Electric ..... They are basically the only tier1 which jumps on every IX.
