Hosting a "Chat Control" debate. Help me roast the surveillance state (France/EU)
Hey folks,
Back again. (sorry for spamming) Some of you might remember my previous thread about "technology for noobs" to prepare for censorship. I appreciate the sanity checks I got there.
I'm leveling up the operation: I’m preparing a YouTube Live with a personality to discuss digital rights, privacy, and state surveillance in France and the EU.
I don't want this to be another generic "privacy is good" fluff piece. I want to get technical and specific but accessible. Since this forum knows more about hosting, routing, and what actually happens at the network layer than 99% of journalists, I’m turning to the hive mind.
I’m looking for specific laws, tools, or "open secrets" I should bring up during the interview.
Here is what I have on my radar so far:
Loi SREN (France): The browser-based blocking mandated by the government (the "anti-scam" filter that Mozilla hated).
Chat Control (EU): The push to scan private messages (Signal/WhatsApp) for CSAM.
Olympic AI Surveillance: The algorithmic video surveillance legalized for the Olympics—is it still running?
Metadata Retention: How long ISPs in France are really forced to keep logs despite the CJEU rulings.
My questions to you:
Are there any "sleeper" laws or tools in France that nobody is talking about?
For those of you running nodes/servers in France (OVH/Scaleway/etc.), have you seen any uptick in weird compliance requests or data seizures?
I want to make this stream useful for geeks and normal people alike. Hit me with the hard stuf
Thanks Folks !
