UK Colocation Insurance

Can anyone recommend an insurer or broker that actually understands the concept of "colocation" please - the top 10 or so on google don't when I spoke to them... just looking for basic contents (theft/fire/etc) insurance on equipment in a rack in a iso27001, 24/7 manned England datacenter

Have you tried Hiscox? They are normally very good with IT companies, I've not asked them for colocation insurance before, but everytime I've spoken with them, they get the IT Market.

Depending on the value of the equipment you might just be after normal business equipment insurance where location doesn't matter.

Tried. They will not insure you unless >50% of income comes from the UK, which in the hosting business rarely happens.

I seem to be over the common thresholds I've seen for "portable" equipment; in any case this is not tools in a van.

Ah that's a shame, the only other one I can think of is Aon, they might be able to help.

    +1 for that.

  • This sounds like a proper pain. I had a similar headache finding insurance for some gear in a small DC in germany actually, and ended up using a broker that specializes in tech firms to piece together a policy. Have you tried any specific tech-focused brokers, or just the mainstream ones?

  • Found someone eventually, you need a specialist broker for this sort of thing, but they do exist.

If anyone has a similar issue (in UK) DM me and I can point you in the right direction.
