Best provider for VPS for VPN in DC metro area

I'm looking for a provider with an ASN that's not well known so that I don't get excessive captchas/bot challenges. I tried HostDZire, which is Leaseweb, and it's not too bad, but is still detected by a good number of sites.

I'm currently using EthernetServers' NJ location, which is a bit better (less bot prompting), but I would like something in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area, and whose ASN info reflects its correct location (I saw some hosts in Virginia whose IPs reported as Singapore or New Mexico).

Any suggestions?

You're always going to have problems with captcha using a VPN on a shared IP range for VPS. Might not be immediate but it'll always happens. Most New Jersey hosts are 7-8ms away from D.C., so latency and routing is usually great.

I'm from the DMV and work remotely, and don't want to raise obvious red flags as I travel without work knowing  . Although of course they could just lookup the IP info and tell it's a commercial IP, but I reckon I can wiggle my way out of that one.

  • Why not just setup a tailscale exit node on your home internet? That way you can tunnel back to your home and use the Residential IP.

ASNs used by hosting providers are always going to be recognised as such, even small ones. The only way to avoid this is to use a residential IP and ensure the traffic looks like regular traffic (i.e. don't do a lot of scraping).
