No other company that I deal with does this. Anyone giving out their SSN for VPS/hosting purchases are asking for trouble.

As for being a random internet company I believe almost every provider here are considered one to almost everyone.

That's Italian law thing iirc. At least I've seen it already in other Italy based.

I am not going to say type some random numbers as you are from USA and it won't even validate/work, but I am also not saying that.
