Looking for max $20/month Intel or AMD based that would only run modded minecraft

Hey everyone!

So one of my friends is currently running a modded minecraft server with Foxomy, a dedicated minecraft server host, and they're paying $20/m for

10 shared 14900K vCores
10 GB of RAM
200 GB of Storage

and I'm pretty sure that non-gaming based server hosts can probably beat that, so I'm wondering if anyone here has any recommendations for a similarly priced hosting provider that would be located within the continental US

I'm also potentially looking at ARM based VPSes as well for them, like OVH's VPS-4 plan looks kinda perfect but I'm not entirely sure that ARM would be the best fit so any advice with that would also be appreciated

Thanks everyone!

Does he need 10 cores? I've hosted Minecraft servers since the inception basically 2009-2011... I have a lot of modded server clients with Minecraft hosting (not VPS) and plans are by default limited to 4~ cores. It's actually never an issue with a modern CPU like it was in the past, nobody maxes the core allocation except during server startup which is normal since startup will eat 24 cores if you let it.

If you want to save him money but don't need a VPS I'll do it at $1/GB in Dallas on a Ryzen 9 system, and I'll increase the core allocation to 8~. But the hosting company you mentioned already sells Minecraft servers at $1/GB on 9950X systems so he should probably just use that if he's currently on one of their premium/higher priced plans (but hell, if he's using 10 cores on a 14900KS that's crazy and he absolutely would not be suited on a lower freq ARM VPS, he needs a dedicated server if so). If he's happy with the service no need to switch.

I would also rather go for the 9950X from your current provider. It has basically the same performance and is only half the price.

  • Oracle's free tier is perfect for this
