Your VPS boot on UEFI / Legacy BIOS ?
Although the boot method doesn’t significantly affect the user experience on a VPS, many VPS providers I’ve encountered default to Legacy BIOS and do not offer an option to switch. So I have to prepare an extra BIOS boot partition to install GRUB on my disk.
However, switching boot methods is not that hard for QEMU KVM, like Proxmox VE offers an option to choose from SeaBIOS and OVMF—so why not provide this choice to users, or just default to UEFI?
With UEFI, we have many other boot-loaders to choose from, like systemd-boot, rEFInd. And UEFI is much more modern and supports many new features. Plus, for ARM-based VPS, UEFI should be the only viable option.
In 2025, are there any systems you use must boot with Legacy BIOS? If you are a VPS provider, do you offer a switch to choose boot method to your customer?

We provide the option to switch between UEFI and BIOS directly from our control panel:
this flexibility is mainly for compatibility. Customers can upload their own ISOs, and some installers may not work with UEFI. In certain cases, it's also more convenient to use BIOS instead of UEFI + disable secure boot, for example, when using netboot.xyz.
advanced security features (such as AMD SEV) require UEFI to function.
I haven't tried netboot yet, thanks for sharing!
And your control panel looks great 😆
netcup has the option to change between Legacy and UEFI
The VirtFusion control panel that some providers use allows for switching the boot mode. I have to say, VirtFusion has done a great job with it
