Low cost Intel E3 Dedicated Server w/18TB HDD or 4TB NVME?
Is there any interest in a lower cost Intel E3 dedicated server with a 1TB SSD boot/os drive and a 18TB HDD? I have a bunch of these E3s in overstock trying to figure out how to spec them to make more the desired. I will create an offer post later based on feedback.
Currently has they sit:
Intel Xeon E3-1270-v3 (4 Cores/8 Threads) @ 3.50 GHz
32 GB DDR3 Memory
1 or 2TB SSD Storage
1 Gbps Unmetered Port
1 IPv4 + 1 IPv6
Two options:
Intel Xeon E3-1270-v3 (4 Cores/8 Threads) @ 3.50 GHz
32 GB DDR3 Memory
1TB SSD Boot/OS
18TB HDD
1 Gbps Unmetered Port
1 IPv4 + 1 IPv6
Intel Xeon E3-1270-v3 (4 Cores/8 Threads) @ 3.50 GHz
32 GB DDR3 Memory
1TB SSD Boot/OS
4TB NVME (gen3 pci)
1 Gbps Unmetered Port
1 IPv4 + 1 IPv6
Please note these are low power/smaller servers so not a ton of HDD room.
Thanks
Ryan

I suppose it ultimately boils down to the question of “how low” you can go.
How much is "low cost" here?
Depending on the price. I'm interested with this config:
Where is this located?
Reference pricing:
Hetzner: E3v3 + 32GB + 40TB HDD, €43.70 per month.
Gorillaservers: 2 x 1.92TB SATA SSDs, $49 per month.
Reliablesite E3 + 1TB SATA SSD, once as low as $25 per month.
OVH: emmmm
Yeah I’d take one for a cheeky price
Houston Texas inside TRG datacenters
How much for the 18TB HDD option? @oplink
Do you have anything like to compare? What would push you to buy.
Intel Xeon E3-1270-v3 (4 Cores/8 Threads) @ 3.50 GHz
32 GB DDR3 Memory
1TB SSD Boot/OS
18TB HDD
1 Gbps Unmetered Port
1 IPv4 + 1 IPv6
i think this one is good for backups
Is the 1G port shared?
@oplink oneprovider has the 1-2 tb hdd setups for ~17.99$
As per our order history I thing below one will be sold easily.
Intel Xeon E3-1270-v3 (4 Cores/8 Threads) @ 3.50 GHz
32 GB DDR3 Memory
1TB SSD Boot/OS
18TB HDD
1 Gbps Unmetered Port

SSD + NVME is not good mix because cpu is not that strong.
Maybe for rare use cases. but SSD + Storage SATA will be sold easily.
$25/mo for 18TB HDD would be great deal.
No, but its a fair shared resource. Do you need a 1G port with 100% dedicated data?
Need yearly 100 $ plan
haha not gonna happen
We use Lumen Bandwidth, its more premium!
100% agree.
Is there a traffic limit, and what is the total uplink capacity from the switch connecting all these dedicated servers to the Internet?
y, I agree — this does look weird.
That's not reference pricing at all. oplink is pretty much single-homed to lumen in the middle of the continent while reliablesite and gorillaservers has vastly superior peering on the coast. you can't compare hetzner with anything since their network is bottom of the barel and they're not even in the US.
Each rack is powered by a 10G Uplink to our core. Our core is dual 100g Uplinks to Lumen and Cogent.
All of our 1G servers come with a 1g unmetered port.
All of our 10G server come with 333TB data transfer.
Thanks,
Ryan

32 GB DDR3 Memory
2x2TB NVME

These dont support PCI bifurcation, wont work.
We have 100g to Lumen and 100g to Cogent. 100% multi-homed. + up to 100G Corero DDOS protection onsite.
I stand corrected. I just assumed cogent was backup, but tbh I prefer single-homed to lumen than using cogent for anything.
Strong CPU + NVME+1G port + low price is also a good feeling.
Added a couple options to order. Give you guys first dibs.
