[FOSSVPS - OnlyServers] Free London VPS with a pretty good network!

IPv6 less than /64 Hall of Incompetence
/64 is the smallest sensible IPv6 sub-assignment size.
Offer /64 or larger subnet on every plan in every location to get delisted.
Hey crew
Super glad to see some of these types of things here. So many of us have an absolute passion for this but cannot keep up with costs, so it's nice to see.
I'd be happy with either of the VPS's. While dedicated ipv4 would be preferred, it wouldn't bother me to get nat or v6.
I mostly want it to tinker with web projects and monitoring tools. I might also set up a localtunnel with a domain to test some self hosted items and not have to worry about my ISP's tendency to swap IP's & my local network hating to play with each other.
Free and open source software only.: Absolutely. I dislike closed software as a rule and avoid it when possible.
White hat only.: Not remotely an issue.
Not for commercial use.: Nope
No service level agreement.: Also okay. Free is free, can't expect too too much (can always hope)
Ephemeral. Could disappear at any time! (read above)
Clueless™ Administrator!: I doubt that, but we all are our own worst enemy.
Cheers!
Welcome! I'm about to send you login info by PM. You will be the first user of the NAT VPS series, though for sure @babywhale has checked them.
If it's not too much trouble, could you please post here about whether you get in, and how things are going if you do get in?
How could a /64 be any where near sensible? A /80 IPv6 prefix contains 281,474,976,710,656 IPv6 addresses...
No problem. It's 230am almost so as soon as I rise, i'll scope it out for you. Much appreciated!!
Look at the link in the same post. It explains
exited to see a new generous server, just here to show respect.
Hi, I have posted before in your previous post about my needs. I want to run znc and vs code server on the vps. and also willing to host my web project for test sometimes as a hobby. Im not wishing for a NAT vps. Thanks in advance 😍
Hey I want free VPS for my pentest job, I'm mainly focuesing on DNS and HTTP scan. (port scan is prohibited). also i want to monitor certificate transparancy logs which takes huge bandwith.
@Not_Oles
I'm not applying, this is just for saying kudos to you and also to @dan_onlyservers as your free VPS seem to be really quite nice!
Hello! I need a vps for setup my glucose monitoring server https://nightscout.github.io/
Thx! 😊
Hi there again, I have a few open source project that need it's demo to be running, currently thinking to switch to a dedicated server along with my other personal service running on it, but it would be great to have them running separately, as for the completed projects, I rarely go and commit to them.
My projects are mostly written in NextJS with python, while I'm currently starting to learn Go (Maybe replace the use of python)
Happy to share more details.
Thanks.
Hello, I am currently studying and need a VPS to work on some interesting open-source projects. Can you provide a free VPS for use? Thank you.
Yeah, right! How dare @Not_Oles to give away free VPSs with only 281,474,976,710,656 IPvIdiocy addresses!!!11!
I don't give a flying fuck about your IPvIdiocy blackmailing list, in fact I read it as "providers who don't follow the IPvIdiocy cult!" which is a big plus in my books, so thanks to, albeit obtrusively, pointing us towards reasonable providers.
My motto in that regard: the solution for artificially and stupidly created IP4 problems is not to create an even more insane monstrosity!
I don't think the vps being free really has anything to do with competence, but I guess you could argue that @Not_Oles makes a point of warning he isn't so .. moot?
Anyway, I don't have a quarrel with you not caring for v6 but consistently quoting the number of addresses is just silly man. Literally nobody gives a shit how many addresses are involved except people who think it's an argument against.
When I come across a provider who disregards best practices re ipv6, I can't help but wonder what other aspects of their business they're flubbing because they know best. I don't find that mindset reasonable at all, quite the opposite.
I'd rather you not offer ipv6 than waste my time with a nonstandard subnet which is going to force me to a tunnel solution anyway.
Sorry @Not_Oles didn't mean to instigate a religious argument, please accept the free bumps anyway.
edit: i reread this and experienced deja vu, if we've already had this conversation please disregard. i don't mean to be boring.
@zed
Uhm, it was @yoursunny who needlessly made "only" about 65000 times the square of the whole IP4 address pool a "problem", not me, I only reacted to his zealotry and gross lack of respect for @Not_Oles giving away free VPSs.
In fact I - generally, not only here - take yoursunny's list as an attempt to basically blackmail providers to give in to his zealotry. In fact he does not even disguise it
So: do as I want or I'll continue to go at your reputation!
Based btw on utter nonsensical idiocy
So, the reason is "because slash64.net says so", and slash64.net says it's "maintained by n-st" which links to some entity on github actually linking to "voidptr.de" whose site only says "This page intentionally left blank." in a normally invisible comment. And who are they? Well, one is out of luck there because DENIC doesn't provide any owner info. Interesting btw that they chose a .de domain because their empty site is hosted elsewhere (UK).
In other words, a whole lot of nothing and fluff - but they are cited as some kind of reference for a nonsensical assertion by IPvIdiocy zealots.
Hello I want free VPS for brute forcing bank accounts
I will use open source tooling only
The internet is full of information from actual professionals explaining repeatedly why /64 should be the absolute minimum (and arguably /48). The slash64 site is just convenient and amusing because of the "doing it wrong" heading imo.
Like I said I've got no interest in arguing ipv6 adoption, it's here and it's not leaving and tilting at windmills isn't even that amusing.
Arguing against what are widely considered best practices is just unsubtle sabotage.
Sorry I already use FOSSVPS for brute forcing bank accounts. I don't think it would be wise to have 2 brute forcer on same server.
That it s correct thnks hav graat day
illegal activities = report
Please don't forget to share repo url for research purposes
Regards
A VPS will let me host and manage services remotely, like running UptimeKuma via Docker to monitor my homelab from overseas. If all goes well, I can scale it up to run a proxy service like traefik. It will also give me a dedicated space to test any open-source apps that catch my interest, all without impacting my local setup. Thanks
@zed
It was his choice to link to that shady site for reference, not mine.
As for the rest: people who came up with or defend or propagate nonsensical BS like IPvIdiocy may be many things but certainly not networking experts. Simple as that.
And kindly keep the "it's the standard" sword in its sheath, among other reasons because it's a very dull sword.
The standard was and is IP4. IP4 still is leading by a large margin in usage by everyone except super large corporations who just so happen to be IPv6 proponents.
Can we now please return to the topic which was @Not_Oles (supported by @dan_onlyservers ) giving away free VPS, even with trillions of IPvIdiocy adresses.
Have a nice weekend everyone.
Processing Your Requests
Now, since we have both dedicated IPv4 / IPv6 VPSes and also NAT IPv4 / IPv6 VPSes available, your request needs to specify which you need, and probably why.
What I have been doing to process requests is looking for specific information about (1) "what you want to run on your VPS" and (2) "why FOSSVPS should select you as a recipient of a free VPS."
There are quite a few requests which seem to do more or less okay on part 1. So I go check profiles and the history of posts and comments. Do I see evidence of engagement in the forum community? Helpful posts? Polite posts? A positive attitude? Good questions? Good answers to other members' questions?
If the request seems okay on both part 1 and part 2, then I go ahead and "thank" the request and PM the login information.
What's been happening is that sometimes I feel not quite sure about either part 1 or part 2. So, I hesitate. Then the request doesn't get thanked. And the VPS doesn't get issued. I apologize to anybody who has wondered about why their request didn't seem acknowleged.
Sometimes I have trouble finding information referred to in the request, but without a link being included in the request. If you say something like, "I did this," or "I want this," please post a link to help me and everyone else see what you are talking about.
Not everybody says "please." Or "thank you." Extra thanks here and now to @dan_onlyservers and to everyone at OnlyServers.
Special thanks to @babywhale and BashVM for making the VPSes.
The more effort you guys invest into your requests, and the more effort you invest into our communiy, the more likely it is that your requests will succeed.
If there were a good way to process requests without involving my personal hesitation, that might be great. I read on another site their process whereby requests are opened in a git repository, the existing members vote, and the requests are processed according to the vote. Maybe at some point, in some way, we could better process requests.
It's okay to update previous requests with additional information.
We still have dedicated IPv4 / IPv6 VPSes and also NAT IPv4 / IPv6 VPSes available. Let's give them away!
Hello! Thank you very much for offering such a rare opportunity to use the free VPS. I really need this British VPS (including dedicated IPv4&ipv6). Please approve one for me. It will be of great help to me. I want to use it to learn how to create a network server using VPS. I will install multiple network operating systems such as Ubuntu or Debian, and then connect to the VPS via SSH using Putty. I will also install various practical scripts like V2ray for work and study. Please give me a rare chance, thank you!
I don't see why that would require a dedicated IP vs nat? 🤔
Also, would the software you will be running be open source?
