Enjoying super-cheap "semi-hot" backup data storage

p50p50 Member

Hi friends...have been enjoying super cheap "semi-hot" backup data storage on the ovh "cloud archive" service. Once you learn how to use it, you can upload backup files there..even very large backup files and store them for absolute pennies on the dollar vs. conventional "backup service" costs or object storage storage costs.

And it looks like if you upload your data to the "cloud archive" containers over OVH's LAN (not over the public internet), all of your data transfer is free

Pretty cool.

As you may know -- but I will repeat it here for those who don't -- the concept with these "semi-hot" data stores is that you can "unfreeze" the data there within a few hours, compared to "cold" storage (which might be kept on tape drives?) and takes much longer, days or weeks to "unfreeze."

Something else about ovh's "cold" data storage is I was reading through the terms and it seems you have to pay for a minimum of 6mos. of data storage if you store any data there. Which apparently does not apply with the "cloud archive" "semi-hot" data storage.

Now on the question for this thread...who else, other than OVH, (and Amazon AWS), offers this kind of cheap "semi-hot" data storage? Noticed Scaleway does ... wondering what other co's. might.

Also interested in cheap aws-compatible object storage in general, particularly if it has low cost (or no cost) data up and down.

Thanks in advance for any tips! Happy Low-ending!
