[Script Release] storalyzer-alma – Because "RAID Is Not a Backup" (and “SMART? What’s That?”)

HosteroidHosteroid Member, Patron Provider

Tired of only discovering your RAID failed three months ago… when you finally need a restore?
Still running that “totally redundant” node with one drive blinking amber and no one noticed?
Did your provider promise “RAID10 enterprise” but forgot to mention the part about actually monitoring it?

Introducing:
storalyzer-alma

A full-stack storage, RAID, and SMART analyzer for AlmaLinux – so your next LET post isn’t “HELP, my data is gone!”

What Does It Do?
* Scans all your disks, NVMe, hardware & software RAID (StorCLI, mdadm, SMART, the works).
* Gives you a color-coded, meme-proof health report—so even the laziest admin can see when doom is imminent.
* Detects that one NVMe dying silently while you’re busy shilling your $1/yr offers.
* Warns you about “RAID10” arrays that are actually “RAID Just Trust Me Bro.”
* Installs what you need (smartmontools, nvme-cli, etc.), but doesn’t Nuke & Pave™ your system.
* Outputs everything in the terminal. No PHP, no WordPress plugins, no cloud mystery meat.

Why Should I Care?
Because you don’t want to be that guy/girl on LET:

  • “All my client VMs are gone, please help, I think my RAID is dead.”
  • “I had RAID1, but nobody told me I had to check if the disks are still there…”
  • “My host said ‘RAID protected’ but I guess that meant praying.”

How Do I Use It?
sudo bash storalyzer-alma.sh
That’s it. If you can SSH, you can run it—even from your favorite attic or basement server.
For full usage, troubleshooting, and the latest features:

What’s the Catch?
* 100% free and open source (GPLv3).
* No premium “Enterprise” edition, no crypto surprises, no “Windows only” version.
* Works anywhere AlmaLinux does.

Actively looking for contributions!

Save a node. Save your dignity. Save your next LET post from being a RAID horror story.
Check your storage before your storage checks you!

P.S. If you run this and discover your RAID’s already dead,
at least you’ll have the prettiest health report on LET… and maybe a new story to share.
