MadCityHosting - seems fine (for now)?
Trying to probe to see if there are any current customers of them. So far (very short time period) the server has performed excellently, the support has been responsive enough (within an hour or so) and just generally been pretty happy (the server uses legacy bios for booting tho which is causing me some grief)
I've seen a lot of negative about the company on this forum but it was a little while ago.

Congrats on your first post and registering yesterday
Not a while ago.

They already scammed twice (before madcity)
Is this the same as madcityservers? When I google madcityhosting, it leads me to madcityservers.
Anyways, madcityservers used to be hotlineservers. They deadpooled.
madcityservers I used them, but then my account my servers all poofed and deleted.
I later learned that the owner had medical issues and was in hospital and didn't pay bills while he was in hospital.
That was message on website anyways, but now the message is no longer there.
They are up and running again on madcityservers.
When I have used them, the server performances were great. Hardware failures such as ram issues was an issue though.
@SCAM_DONT_BUY
Interesting. I guess I should stay far away - but I'm certain the price is damn near unbeatable and I have nowhere else to go.
Specs (currently) are 4 9950x cores and 24GB ram (the other specs aren't really as important for me) for $25/mo
For what it's worth, Brian has been very helpful. I don't know how many others work there because he's the only one that's been answering my tickets, which is a little alarming
advinservers cost a little more... however,
It's who I moved to after madcity and I am still using. I don't regret moving.
Advin looks good. I do feel slightly bad cancelling (hes been so helpful and ive had no issues) but I guess it's my right as a customer. From what I can gather, the Advin owner is active here?
Yea, he is active here. pretty active on the LET discord too.
Awesome, thank you. Guess I'll cancel madcity.
This is unrelated to the thread (and my last question), but how do most of these VPS providers handle security? I should probably specifically ask the people behind Advin this question, but it's a burning one I've had for a while.
tbh this post feels more like a hidden ad for madcityhosting
I mean I just sent in my cancellation request. Sorry if it came across that way.
They've already deadpooled 2 times...
if you want to lose your data for a few dollars less, that's fine.
was it even really hidden
😭
I am sure madcity is one provider who provides bulletproof security where none of those pesky little kids in front of the computer can get through.
erm... idk about that, but when I got extra IP from him. I wasn't able to use it via ssh even though I could ping it, he said that someone else assigned it to themselves.
idk how technical that is, but didn't seem safe to me at the time.
I honestly don't trust anyone but the big names (because they have certifications and such). I was trying to set up some sort of system for encryption that involved manually entering the key over SSH on boot. I was just asking a more general question of what upstanding providers would do to try and protect their users (meaning companies other than madcity)
When I used his vps, he was great. You can still use it just make sure you aren't using it for anything important. He has a tendency to just disappear randomly and servers will go offline.
Like mentioned, there are a lot of great providers here that are more reliable.
Advin is a great option, I would also look at ExtraVM @MikeA
ExtraVM uses the same DCs as Madcityservers. So if you like what you had with them, they would be a good fit.
Linveo @lnx also has a lot of good deals on 9950x vpses across the US.
Only in Los Angeles and Miami (if MCC even used RSNET there still). New Jersey was one of their popular locations I think and I moved off to my own colo'd hardware. I plan to eventually move off Los Angeles to my own hardware as well but the hardware cost adds up for a small guy like me 😢
Unfortunately Advin looks to be out of stock on the setup I want, so I'll have to wait (the price and performance are both exactly what I'm looking for) or keep looking.
ahh I see.
MCS still uses ReliableSite for LA, Miami and NJ. I liked their NJ location, their Miami is pretty good too.
Network is great, especially compared to more expensive options with limited bandwidth. Just not a reliable option for business like mine anymore.
