How many accounts did you open? My guess would be > 1.

Yes, I created a second account under the same profile because I was unable to change my address in my primary account.

I used to work for Microsoft. When I ordered a BuyVM VPS from a Microsoft corporate IP address (non-Azure), it reported as a "proxy."

I understand the reason why: most MSFT IPs are Azure IPs, Microsoft corporate isn't likely to use BuyVM and BuyVM is rightfully cautious. I could re-order from a residential IP.

  • Reminds me of the days when I lived in Illinois and had Internet through a Canopy WISP. They had an agreement for rooftop access to some datacenters and were using non residential IP's (the DC's address space) for the WISP's network, in return for buying a few cabinets.

Seems to still be pretty common practice. I've heard of stuff like this from friends in Jakarta causing the same types of issues.

That said ... generally you just reach out to support, prove who you are and there's no problem. Most providers are reasonable if a customer offers to give Photo ID and documentation.
