I added a new CraneMail account I just created and added it to Mail, then started syncing emails from the old mailbox with the new one with imapsync. Now Mail crashes every time I open it in less than a minute with cryptic crash details. Any suggestions on what I could try? I tried removing and re-adding the account a few times, still same issue.

    I haven't had a ton of success doing big mailbox migrations with macOS mail. If it's just a few thousand messages and you do it in chunks, it should be okay.. but more than that and it tends to choke.

    Would recommend trying it with Thunderbird instead. The ideal is IMAPSync though if you're fine working in the command line.

    On un-screwing macOS mail, Google to see if there's a way to flush the existing mail databases/etc and do a clean reset of the app.

  • Like I mentioned, I am doing the migration with imapsync, not Mail. The thing is that Mail crashes as soon as it starts downloading some messages, and SparkDesktop lists the messages but hangs when attempting to open them. As for mail I have even factory reset it completely, but the problem persists and again SparkDesktop is also having problems with the IMAP. any suggestions?

  • It seems it was caused by Avast Antivirus, which I installed a few days ago. It didn't cause any issues with the previous account, but perhaps something was triggered while the client downloaded all the messages from the new mailbox due to some old message I guess.

    add as exchange, limit email history to 1 month
