What VPN are you using for privacy and streaming?

TYTTYT Member

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a reliable VPN for personal use, mainly for privacy and occasionally streaming Netflix US. My budget is around $5/month, and I prefer providers with servers in the US and EU. No-logs policy is a must. What VPN are you using, and how’s your experience with it? Any recommendations or ones to avoid?

Thanks!

Not using for streaming so have no idea but Windscribe has been good to me

Saw some posts about them terminating high bandwidth users without warning but as said to me they’ve been good

Edit: They run $29/yr deals every now and again

Yes they might be even better but no deals so I guess about 2x what Windscribe is during deals

  • Windscribe has a unlock streaming option which worked for me, Have used it in the past.

Not using it now, On a self hosted VPN instance atm.

proton/windscribe for privacy, streaming and torrenting (port forwarding)

    mullvad/ivpn/azirevpn for privacy

    just an fyi
if you use over 10tb/month, do not buy windscribe as your account will likely get terminated.

IncogVPN - Stream just fine from YouTube (Premium), Netflix, Plex and Tidal. This is my personal experience, I'm sure others stream from other services too. Those are the only ones I use, however.

What about increasing number of websites blocking VPN like when for example you want to rent a VPS/hosting, etc...?

Do your VPN work or do the get detected too (via ip2proxy or similar tool) and your order rejected as "fraud"?

In 2015, a server was seized by Toronto police. They did really poorly inform the customers and did not announce this information for a long time. Lack of transparency is a killer. Can’t trust this service and owners anymore. They also removed their thread from forum, but it’s still available on Internet Archive https://web.archive.org/web/20240326121910/https://airvpn.org/forums/topic/56817-court-order-seizing-the-server/

Windscribe are superb for streaming since they got dedicated button in account setting to bypass block on mainstream netflix, disnex+, hulu etc.

They recently mass banning accounts abusing their servers by sharing accounts with hundreds other people, but shouldn't be an issue if you're just 1 person not seeding torrent multiple tb per month. In fact after they ban those people their servers has been more stable and faster now.

This should implemented by vps providers too.

I use windscribe nowdays since i got a lifetime plan and it works fine. I have use IVPN and mullvad before. Proton is alright. For high bandwidth use like what @emgh said, it's true but I'm going to guess most people are going to use less then 1-2TB a month? Iv been torrenting Ubuntu ISOs and it works fine. Only had to pay 10/yr and I like it. Comfy

    Thanked by 2emgh TYT
  • hands down mullvad, proton & ivpn. only proton supports port forwarding though

Mullvad is great, using for around six years, but likely blocked from streaming services.

Try to avoid VPN reported by proxy detection API to avoid IP blacklist. For example, those VPN listed in https://www.ip2location.com/vpn-provider-coverage

    I have over 5 years: https://fastestvpn.com/

Very satisfied and I bought it for lifetime.

  • I’ve tried a dozen providers and also self-hosted. They all unfortunately get blocked or captcha’d eventually. I just switch as soon as the blocks or captchas become painful enough.
