DeluxeHost Promo VPS benchmark and review

Recently @DeluxHost had a pre-sales promo with very, very tasty offers of Xeon Gold based VPS servers and of bloody course I got one. And of even bloodier course I benchmarked it. To be precise I purchased an 'F-3', so 2 vCores, 4 GB memory, 60 GB NVMe and (at fair use) unlimited traffic at 10 Gb/s for a ridiculously low €12/yr!

First, Yes it got tight delivery time wise, I got mine on day 14th. But hey, still on time, so promise kept.

I did, however, limit myself to a single "first impression" run due to the very high likelihood of many users yabsing the living shit out of their new VPS, because I wanted to be fair and benchmark the VPS only after a few days when most of the yabsing likely had stopped and more realistic results could be achieved.

So, here are the results, based on 36 runs, along with my comments. As usual, starting with sysinfo, processor, and memory:

It of course isn't very sensible to run a VPS within a VPS, but anyway, you could, all the important flags are set.
As for the performance it looks a bit half-cooked, because let's be honest, single-core results of not even 150 MB/s are a bit poor. But then, let's be honest again, of bloody course a Xeon Scalable server at such a ridiculously low price is densely packed!
Things look much better though if you have more than one vCore; multi-core results of solidly above 400 MB/s are decent and the spread also is quite acceptable. The crypto results are somewhat mediocre but that's just the Xeon Architecture; but still I wouldn't see any problem to run any website on that VPS except for the high-end in terms of dynamic site like a nighly visited wordpress site.
All in all nice, me not unhappy with what I got, not even a bit.

So, let's look at the disk

Over 20 MB/s and nearly 6000 IOps is decent, especially for the very low price, and the spread is very acceptable with wide spreads only on random reads which makes caching hard.
This can be kept short: Absolutely nothing to complain in this department. I haven't done it yet but wouldn't expect anything than a very decent result with my DB benchmark, which boils down to: except for heavy DB workloads, which nobody in his right mind would put on such a relatively small VPS anyway, this disk will definitely not be a limiting factor.

Finally, connectivity:

Hmmm, in some way yet another case of half-cooked. Let's start with the positive side. See those results within Europe? YAY, what a nice connectivity! Kind of purrfect for Europe-centric people like myself.
Outside Europe though not so great. I mean, certainly not crappy but also certainly not great. Yes, here and there a few nice peaks like 120+ Mb/s to NYC, but also quite a few not great at all results. Plus what you can't see: quite a few secondary targets, incl. really good and well known ones, simply failed. Ozzyland is an example: one out of three targets reached, with a mediocre result, and the two others completely failed, yuck.

Again, I'm very Europe-centric and "kinda reaches Asia and America" is good enough for me, especially when all the targets in Europe show really good, almost great results, but if you're looking more for good global connectivity, this one likely is not for you.

But hey, and that's a really major point, we're talking about a dirt cheap VPS here! And keeping in mind which expectations one can reasonably have re. a "a bit more than €10/year" VPS this one certainly is a winner!

Hence: recommended! - and DeluxHost has earned a place in my "providers to always look at when they publish an offer!".
