Wow, yeah, this is totally unacceptable. I'm going to be cancelling my server immediately. Glad I saw this thread and learned about the bait-and-switch before I actually started relying on this machine for production. Thought I'd share some data for anyone that doesn't believe this is true...

I bought my server just over 4 months ago on they day they were launched, and apart from an initial yabs it's been pretty much idle. I set it up with haproxy to my backend server, but it's not actually been published in DNS yet so it's been doing nothing apart from proxy heartbeats.

Reading about the limits, I just ran a yabs. I guess it hit 50GB part way through that, and I was immediately throttled to 100Mbits/s during the yabs itself. This actually appears to be an IPv6 limit, and a follow-up yabs shows IPv4 is capped around 60Mbits/s.

    First yabs:

EDIT: In fact, it's even more laughable. I just logged in to cancel the service and their control panel says this: "1000 GB (Used 18.2 GB)". So, they're only counting incoming bandwidth and I've been throttled using less than 2% of my limit.

EDIT 2: You can't even cancel from the control panel - instead it asks you to confirm and then takes you to the create ticket screen. I've removed my payment method instead, hopefully that's enough to stop these scammers.

A little update - trying to cancel the service just takes you to the "create a ticket screen", which I did over a week ago requesting cancellation and they've just ignored that ticket.

The original ticket complaining about the bait and switch, which they replied to saying "you must have used too much" and I replied with stats showing I'd used less than 2% of the bandwidth allowance has since been ignored for a day less than the other one, that's just because it took them over a day to reply in the first case.

They have since sent an invoice for the next month and multiple e-mail complaining they couldn't take my money (I cancelled the payment method on their site AND blocked their payment provider in my banking app).

Stay far, far away from these scammers.

UPDATE: it seems they haven't figured out how to disable the cancel button on the pay invoice screen, so there is still a way to cancel, you just need to make sure you don't have a valid payment method active and wait for the invoice.

This is how little network traffic you need to use to get rate limited with claw when they advertise 1Gbps and a 1TB monthly allowance:

For anyone that's wondering, the spikes are running yabs once per spike. The machine was otherwise idle.

Also my cancellation support ticket still hasn't been replied to after 2 weeks now, so I've had to resort to removing my payment method and blocking them at the bank. Biggest bunch of scammers I've ever come across.

  • ralfralf Member

Wow, the arrogance of these guys. They just closed both of my tickets, one has never been replied to in 2 weeks. The other got a single reply saying I'd used too much data (18GB from 1000GB/m allowance) and that was why I throttled. They never replied to any follow up questions.

For anyone still considering these scammers, run as far away from them as you can.

When they started here I was interested and kind of liked them and IIRC the benchmark results weren't crappy either.
But the problems started early on, e.g. no ISO support. Later more ugly factors appeared, like for example them sending me invoices for test VPS which they had offered to me for free. And always "funny" to/fro bouncing and often finally ending up in a void Sufficiently unnerved I decided to let them try to sue me for money they provably had no right to demand.
Meanwhile and since months I usually simply skip their threads.

Frankly, I'm not even surprised anymore to see customers report about what at least in my books simply is fraud.

To those who think "STAY AWAY FROM CC!": I fully agree.

Funny btw that the abbreviation for them ('CC') happens to be the same a certain blue company here on LET has ("the unsinkable blue one") ...
