If you’re storing actual business data about clients and employees then using LET providers is the worst idea unless your business consists of single digit number of employees and clients (even then, be mindful of your country’s data protection laws). I wouldn’t consider LET providers secure to that level when they can deadpool with your data at any time.

Having said this, if you absolutely cannot afford cloud storage from a proper provider, a Singapore storage VPS from @hosthatch may be your best bet for cost, reliability, and quality.

    Hi,

thats offtopic sorry, but... according to your writing you consider every provider who is somehow present on LET basically a trash provider? I mean something that you can assume wont work reliable for a long time?

    IF i understood you correct:

Its for sure correct that LET is filled with providers that offer questionable pricings and/or may exist since 0-5 years only. But there are also providers who exist 10-20+ years on market. Would it not be a bit too harsh to generalize this too much?

Not for client or employee data that consists of social security numbers or other similar PII data, absolutely not. There are even laws regulating this. A provider that Deadpools can run away with that sensitive data and you have no idea if it was properly destroyed. Even seemingly well-run companies have deadpooled overnight.

There are use cases for LET providers that are perfectly fine (such as backups of photos and personal files), but stuff like employee records I won’t play fire with. I already fell victim to a Deadpool storage provider in the past, so I speak from my own experience and not arbitrarily generalizing.

But yes this is off-topic I agree with that much.

EDIT: I also never called any provider trash or used words synonymous to “trash” anywhere. I am simply saying if you don’t want to be sued or found criminally liable for leaking sensitive employee/client data away (breaches, deadpooling, etc) choose a robust provider even if it costs a lot of money. You’re paying top dollar for a reason.

Tbh I think “not being a good fit” and “trash provider” are two different things, and he meant the former. AWS for example provides datacenter-level redundancy, while most LE* providers provide disk level redundancy at best. Does this make LE* providers trash? No. But does it make them a better fit for very important business data? Also probably no.

Harsh yes, but that's the reality. It's all about statistics, the chance of a lowend provider deadpooling or losing your data is significantly higher then the risk of a big player doing the same.
Does this mean every lowend provider is trash? Of course not, that is not at all how statistics work.

Client's data is a serious business i wouldn't trust just 1 tb storage server or ftp storage for my needs especially involving clients data. The best i leverage is a dedicated mini pc connected to my home network accessible with CF tunnel coupled with zero trust rules and minio and believe me this is the best advice I can give.

In terms of affordable storage Hetzner (Germany) is the best one. If you are looking for US based Storage, please check VPS Storage Deal at https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/203663/interserver-buy-1-get-2-free-wh-vps-updated-plans#latest

billing is per TB and operation, so, to test should not cost much at all. possibly you could reach out about testing and get some free credits from sales

for business they'll want to use b2 storage. it is free to sign up but you'll pay for storage used and API calls depending on functions called...not sure if there is a free tier, i didnt think so. personal backup has a free trial.

Its not b2 or blackblaze i dont need the backups running always and i read their interface usage tutorial which is complex, i just need a vps storage box accessible via FTP or any third party interface. thats easy for us..pls suggest
    1. go for Hostbrr-storagebox
    2. go for hosthatch
    3. go for layer7
    4. go for buyvm slack

out of those...I'd probably hit hosthatch then layer7 and then buyvm (stock?). the hostbrr storage box has been a mixed bag but the owner is also a super nice guy so i mean theyre all fine. hosthatch and layer7 have stock and are very nice people. maybe go for 2 providers and have 2 copies?
