shit for new users. Luckily there are great alternatives such as Emby and open source Jellyfin. Hopefully this will make Jellyfin more popular than ever.
JellyFin 🚀
remote stream? does that mean i cant stream from my server even though im port forwarding??
https://support.plex.tv/articles/extended-remote-watch-pass-trial
thats actually so ass
unfortunately i caved in and bought the lifetime pass. should have done so during BF
Disable remote access
install cloudflared tunnel
add 192.168.1.50:32400 or whatever in cloudflare tunnels page.
disable cache (bypass all) with page rules for entire domain in cloudflare
works now and plex sees all clients as local even if it can see the IP.
They will close this loophole. They are not stupid and shown previously that are capable to make decisions to increase ROI.
but does this work for the mobile app lmao
I saw that yesterday.
I’ll not try to bypass this limitation. And I’ll switch to jellyfin.
Well configured it’s about the same for my use case though
To those of you using iOS, Jellyfin + Infuse is extremely smooth. It’s my favorite way to stream and Infuse, to me, is well worth its price.
Although I think they regularely higher prices, but not for existing subs, so I think I pay well below current price.
There’s a lifetime option though.
that plexpass lifetime purchase in 2016 seems worth it now
seems jellyfin can't do H.265 on android
I have very bad experience with jellyfin. Too slow.
Emby on the other hand, opens instantly.
It’s just the backend. I think Infuse caches a lot.
Also purchased lifetime like 5-6 years ago for roughly 50€ish iirc. Definitely worth it. Once they introduce smth like a Premium Subscription tier or smth like that and ditch lifetime users, I'll be gone though.
Perhaps it's going south? (as in going shit)
jellyfin so far so good
Is there an easy solution for Jellyfin's networking? As in latest time I checked there was no "remote play" feature, you had to create VPN tunnel or smth. Is it still the same?
It can if you select an external player and if the Android device in question is recent enough to have H.265 hardware decoding capabilities.
Jellyfin streams video and audio data over HTTP, so you either have a VPN and you connect to the HTTP port of the Jellyfin instance, or you add a reverse proxy which terminates HTTPS (my current solution).
using an external player does not sync the playtime on Plex.
i suppose its the same with jellyfin?
I don't know about Plex, but I use mpv and VLC as external players every day with Jellyfin, and they report the actual playback time to Jellyfin, so I can restart playback from where I paused the video earlier.
Yes
right. now that's $119.99 i'll never get back.
Something like this is possible using the MPV Shim: https://forums.plex.tv/t/mpv-shim-for-plex-cast-to-mpv-on-linux-windows/447471
You "cast" to mpv and when you hit play it opens mpv in fullscreen. If you stop in the middle of an episode/movie/etc. it should remember where you left off.
Did they start enforcing the changes ? I’m still able to remote stream. Or could it be because I’ve paid a one-time unlock fee for the iOS app and am currently in some sort of trial ? (haven’t activated the 3-month trial as mentioned in the announcement)
What does this mean for people like me who streams Plex in my browser or from an Android device like a projector? I don't manage a Plex server, my friends just share their server with me. I have no clue how it works, I just know I have a free user account and when I login, I see content from a few friend's Plex servers that they manage.
What is not being talked about here is the fact that if the server owner has the subscription, all users on the server benefit from the ability to stream without needing to individually buy it.
So far nothing can beat plex for features atm. You should all get lifetime for the plex server owner account for the streaming to work.
