@emgh said: Hetzner has turned to shit, they were once the cool kids in town, and now they're treating LET like they would a newsletter because they simply don't care anymore

I disagree that we've "turned to shit". To be fair, I am biased, though.

It is true that we spend less time on LET than in the past, and I would be lying if I said that the atmosphere here didn't influence that at all.

We'll try to do better not "treating LET like [...] a newsletter".

What kinds of posts would you like to see from us? (Please don't request special prices or sales for LET readers. We don't do that for ANY forums/social media.) If you follow us somewhere else -- for example, somewhere on social media -- and you have seen posts there that you like, let me know why, and I will try to do better about doing similar posts here. --Katie

FWIW I think Hetzner is quite active in LET especially for company as big as theirs.

Shame that the auction servers are much more expensive nowadays compared to few years ago 😬

I asked you 7 times the same simple yes or no question and you didn't answer 7 times.

Otherwise I'm fine with hetzner and you guys' presence tbh. Can't expect 7/yr deals from you understandably.

PS: Not blaming you Katie specifically, or Lea Or anyone else in customer support. Just weird company policies towards transparency and treating customers like children

Why should a big company like Hetzner care about LET? :D

Whoa 7 times? That’s bad. I mean, they could’ve do better.

The audacity of some members... Earth is not flat and sun does not revolve around you, so as Hetzner has things to do besides answering some childish, provocative questions. I fully support hetz marketing dept. Big corps has reputation to uphold. Wanna chat? Go to charity host type of threads.

    1. Treating it like a community and not like a box to tick off when a new product is launched, like in the past.
    2. I understand you don't do any special stuff, but while the market has turned more competitive, your offers have not. Hardware is increasingly getting old, and the new expansions don't offer at all the same value as they did in the past. Take S3 for example, you charge a base price, and then about the same as BackBlaze. Take the US expansion for example, heavily limited bandwidth at not so attractive pricing.

Also, to be frank, I understand that the tone of the forum made you guys less active, but IIRC it all started when you guys started to throw people out for using too much bandwidth on servers advertised with "unlimited traffic" if I remember correctly, so, to some degree, self-inflicted. Still, I understand your position, as a large company, why spend time taking shit from people paying <100/EUR a month.

All I'm saying, what started it wasn't completely unjustified.

@Hetzner_OL Any idea when hetzner will offer new Ryzen 9950X in Germany?

  • AlexBarakovAlexBarakov Patron Provider, Veteran

@Hetzner_OL what about expanding DC capacity in Nuremberg? Getting new racks is tougher and tougher these days. Last time I was in the DC I saw some new buildings getting constructed right next to the current DCs - is this planned as new data halls?

I can pass that information onto our product development team. We are, naturally, very aware that any changes in price are going to strongly affect our popularity on LET.

I am not arguing that we received more criticism on LET after that. In my experience, LET has, in general, a unique tone compared to some other places, and always has. However, we know that many LET users have been with us for a long time, and/or genuinely appreciate us. And, of course, we appreciate them, too!

I find, though, that it actually takes me longer to respond to comments on LET because I am EXTRA, EXTRA careful about my wording here. One small misstep, and things can quickly escalate, and then the next thing you know, there's a bunch of popcorn-eating memes and dirty jokes. And I'm a native speaker.

    1. Treating it like a community and not like a box to tick off when a new product is launched, like in the past.

When our social media team thinks about posts we can do, many of the ones that fit on other social media platforms just are not ideal for LET. They're often too social-media-y. Or sometimes the information they contain, like the TekkBit posts we do elsewhere, are too basic for LET readers.
I'll keep an eye out for other types of posts that we can do here. --Katie

We don't announce in advance when we will expand products to other locations, or if we will. If we have good news about adding a new location for a product, we prefer to publish that after they are in place and customers can order them. We prefer to surprise you with good news. --Katie

Yes, there are plans to add more capacity to NBG. We always strive to expand our overall infrastructure, whether that means adding to existing locations or looking for new ones. Again, we prefer to announce good news about new capacity only once it becomes available. --Katie

Thank you for the detailed response, I agree with all of it.

LET's probably more ideal for long-form content, DC videos, interviews, feedback for some beta offerings, etc.

I'm so curious hows a job interview for a Marketing Assistant or whatever at Hetzner...

"Ok, so btw besides all the other responsibilities there's... uh... a special forum (let's say that) too where you'll have to post sometimes... nothing out of ordinary... just a bunch of hyenas... hope you have excellent media training because you'll need it"

  • zedzed Member

    @Rubben said: excellent media training
