Cheap Oceania VPS for a small Django webapp

Need some help finding a cheap Oceania VPS (NZ or AU) for a Django project!

My client's in New Zealand, and they're getting terrible ping times connecting to my test server in the US. An NZ server would be ideal, obviously.

Question is: Will an Australian server still give a much better ping for someone in NZ compared to the US? (No clue myself, haha).

It's likely a long-term client project, but for the moment, I just need a cost-effective VPS I can use for testing while I finish building the app.

So, any suggestions for good value NZ/AU VPS hosts? Thanks!

    @trewq https://flowvps.com is $11 AUD/mo for 4GB RAM in Sydney. Good deal.

    Spark (NZ ISP) is 23ms to Sydney, AU. To Los Angeles (west coast US) it's 157ms.

    Fly.io has Sydney region, and their auto-sleep feature is pretty nice. For a low-traffic Django backend, I’m paying less then a dollar

    @Zappie for NZ

    @conXt and @BinaryLane both cheap have monthly billing in Aus with multiple locations available between $3.5-$4 AUD (~$2.2USD-$2.5USD)

    @onidel is another option at about $5 AUD p/mth

    @ShockHosting is the prem option at $5 USD p/mnth

    @Thermostatic in addition to our competitive pricing and powerful custom-built control panel, we also offer hourly billing. Since you are currently in the testing phase, you can take a snapshot of your VM and launch it whenever needed - you will only be billed for the hours it's running :)

    I've found Binary Lane to be wonderful. Really nice control interface, so you can spin up experimental VPSs quickly and easily, and they charge by the minute or microsecond or something

    Thanks for the recommendations!

    We can offer a local (Aucland based, in New Zealand) server. If you need any sort of custom setup feel free to get in touch with us.

    If you were to get something in Aussie instead, SYD is about ~25ms from Auckland and MEL is ~35ms and USA (LAX) is about ~125ms from Auckland for context

    20 years ago I read that there were radio antennas to bring internet to New Zealand from Australia. I imagine today that would be fiber. Too lazy to google; not that google would help with anything these days anyway.

    Anyway, I'll drop a firecracker:

    Onidel — $3.60 / month
    1 Epyc Cores (shared)
    1024 MB RAM
    20 GB NVMe
    1024 GB/month bandwidth
    1.0 Gbps port speed
    IPv4 + IPv6
    Hosted in Australia
