MyW refugee looking for reasonable/cheap shared DA hosting
Been lightly using MyW for the past 3-4(?) years. Currently using it for some very small, lightweight projects. Nothing critical, everything is backed up. Sounds like jar is going to shutter the service soon (justifiably so), and so I thought I'd investigate other options out there.
Years ago I had a $2/month DA reseller plan from buyVM. Looks like that plan is still available. Could also just do the $8/yr shared plan...
At any rate, are there any other good options out there worth considering? I don't need support unless the hardware/network goes down. USA location, probably OK with a total of 10gb storage, whatever level of bandwidth. And Direct Admin.
Who is the jarland/mxroute of shared hosting? Most of my other hosting is VPS-based (no DA), so I don't really pay close attention to the shared posters of the LET world.

That's the best we got at the moment. We had some MyW deals last September I think when things were initially blowing up.
Francisco
vouch for @NameCrane it works so smooooooth I have one in SG also recommend Hostbrr @labze have always seen positive reviews about them

Send me a message with your invoice/plan and I would probably price match it. No DirectAdmin though if that's your preference.
You're price matching 10 euros for lifetime?
Statistically speaking you probably won’t price match more than you can count on one hand.
If that's what it was I'll do it for him at least.
SPanel has a nice and clean UI, better than DirectAdmin.
So +1 for ExtraVM
What about me? Can I get in on this?
Any chance I can also have it
?
Nah, offer is for OP. But I'll gladly do a cheap yearly deal.
We can come up with some StackCP (20i) packages, both UK and US locations if that would be of any use.
If you need strictly DA @labze have some very cheap deals like 5/$y for 10GB and all unlimited/UNMETERED. Im using his cpanel shared in DE and im quite impressed with its speeds and stability.

For anyone looking at NameCrane again, I've created a 20% off coupon for DirectAdmin plans good until April 1st. Works for any DirectAdmin Shared, Reseller or Crate plans on annual (or longer term) billing cycles only.
Coupon:
directadmin20off
Expires: April 1st, 2025
Can you make the coupon 50%?
Easter will be in a month. Most likely we will see many offers then for people who did not grab Christmas or Black Friday offers to migrate from MyW. I don't think @jar will end the services in one month, so I believe there is no reason to panic.
Your right, I am in panic mode. Hope something comes along!
It's not April 1 yet.
We gave some ~50% discounts in September. Many users took us up on them.
I think our prices are more than fair.
Francisco
Don't panic. Breathe. Try to calm down. @jar is not shutting down servers soon. There is some time to migrate, and Easter is right around the corner. Grab a beer and think about what you need and what's your budget so that when offers start appearing in a few weeks you'll be ready and not get carried away (at least that's what we all try to tell ourselves every time, and yet we still end up idling services).
First internal suggestion was December.
Therefore customers can wait even until Black Friday 2025, but I can not recommend anyone to keep data until the very last moment on a service held for free with politeness.
I'm a customer of ExtraVM / MikeA web shared hosting since 2 or 3 years now. Let's be honest, the value of his service is amazing. Speed, performance, SPanel is easy and straight to the point, support is fast and it's stable. I'm really happy to try his service, no regrets! I'm hosting main non profit I support on it, no complaint at all. If you can get a price match or a great discount, don't hesitate, 100% worth it.
As MyW refugee we got AWESOME deals with NameCrane (Francisco / BuyShared). Really crazy when I consider the power they also provide. I cross all finger I can the service will stay that quality in future. Super fast, Redis cache included, DirectAdmin fast and I felt easier than regular one we have on MyW. Most website I have there are in development for now, planning to move an heavier one but low traffic on their Europe location (MyW Europe is instable since like 2 months
; yeah I took NameCrane NA and EU locations, had 2 MyW lifetime so asked if it would possible to have the refugee discount for both; I feel really lucky). Check their actual LTD on mail service, it's really refreshing what is provided there. NameCrane is REALLY faster than BuyShared by experience (had really slow web in the past that's why I moved to MyW and then to ExtraVM / NameCrane ; note in the past it could be skill issue as well as I was used to have dedicated and VPS and for first time using shared web hosting).
ExtraVM has been my number one for a while (the one where I put the critical load), now with NameCrane the competition is getting interesting ˆˆ. I like both and would suggest you to go the one who's offering the best deal.
Hello jar, is there somewhere I can read more about this (I'm aware of old communication when you took over MyW to help us as customers, would like to read something recent I've missed)? I felt like you would start ARoute after MXRoute
.
(OP if you don't know jar yet, he is the guy behind MXRoute which is an amazing mailbox service I would recommend without hesitation)
thanks, all. It looks like there are a few options that could work for my needs. Appreciate the help.
Appreciate the kind words.
@Francisco's been talking about it on our discord, but we're going to be launching offloaded managed SQL service for heavy (ab)users or anyone that wants better performance and eventually different pg/mysql versions (postgres, mysql 8.x, mariadb 11.x, etc).
So we're looking to shift some of the heavy users in Vegas & LU (Soon NL) to that, and reclaim that free crate node CPU to allow better burst performance and just bring down load on some systems.
We've invested almost 6 figures on new hardware in the last few months, 2 new full time support staff plus an additional part-time sysadmin, etc - so lots of improvements coming, despite some of the growing pains as of recent, and hope to make our services even more production-worthy.

How do you get 10GB per email account with only 5GB space? At least for me, mail has always been included in my disk space.
@interservermike maybe?
Hosting for files such as PHP/HTML are hosted on separate servers to the email and do not count towards your disk usage.
This sounds very generous: so, for example, a user could create 100 email accounts and receive a total of 100 x 10GB (= 1TB) storage space for the email accounts?
