Crypto fee 2 high. Why?

arnoldzarnoldz Member
edited March 18 in Help

I’m trying to pay for the server with crypto, 4.99 USDT from Trust Wallet,
and the fee comes out to 27.3966 TRX (~$6.15)
I don’t understand why it’s so high
I expected it to be around $0.1-0.5

II’m a dummy, this is my first time making a transfer 🙂

Don't use TRC-20 for small transactions, use ERC-20 (Ethereum) instead, the fees are a bit more stable, but for it, you need Ethereum, obviously.

In general, if you are able to, use Bitcoin. The lowest fees, IMHO... atm it's around $0.23 USD.

There is no option to switch to another network

Your USDT is on tron network, you can't "switch," you must swap (exchange) it. To swap, you must pay the same or even higher fee. If you have more usdt, swap now and pay that fee just once

If only Monero or Nano were used as widely.

I was told that the cheapest way is to use USDT and transfer via TRC-20
    Wrong?

But no matter what network, using tokens is never cheapest. Do you need a stablecoin?

    Grok 3 to me:
The commission for transferring 5 USDT from Trust Wallet (TRC-20) to a Cryptomus wallet is 1–2 TRX (approximately $0.15–$0.30 at a TRX rate of $0.15).

I do not understand why the commission is ~$6.15 in my case... 😕😕😕

I will pay the invoice for you, but in future, please avoid using stablecoins for transactions such as these.

Please PM me the invoice URL.

I really didn't mean to offend, it's just shitty from the provider to put you in this position. It's not fair on the customer at all. You're literally getting railroaded...

It turns out that I was misled by artificial intelligence (Grok 3 and Qwen)
They both said that the cheapest way is through TRC20

Agree. Monero fees are pennies compared to BTC.

It's was not something like a surprise
However I have asked several times ChatGPT, Qwen and Grok
    ChatGPT answer:
TRC-20 (Tron) is the best choice if the recipient supports it. If not, BEP-20 or Solana can be good alternatives. ERC-20 is not recommended for small amounts due to high fees.

I was going to, but then the AI convinced me to use TRC-20 🤣🤣🤣

  • Today I saw a dev on reddit running SaaS that code by AI lmao now I see OP asking AI about using money.

Great, they will replace you, not me.

It might be come from the payment gateway used by your server provider. You fortunate enough to see the fee & not automated :|
Either accept @Verasel generosity or find other way to pay or just find another provider.

  • There is a platform that specializes in renting traffic. 6 TRX transfers are equivalent to about 1 USDT.

I googled it — if the recipient has 0 USDT in their account, the fee will be around 27.7 TRX
And if there is USDT in the account, the fee is about 13.8 TRX

Payment gateways generate a new address for every transaction, so it doesn't matter

The provider’s not at fault here
It’s all on me — I picked the crypto and the network myself 😔

PS: Although, maybe the Democrats are to blame for this

litecoin and monero fees are way less. Monero would be less than a penny with litecoin similar.
