ISO bare minimum VPS for DMCA free seedbox

I torrent about one movie or season of a TV show per month. I'm looking to do this from a VPS (and then ssh to my NAS) to avoid DMCA concerns at home. This would be a bare-bones, single-task VPS.

Other bits (mostly in case my specs below are unwise):

  • I don't want to colocate with anything bulletproof
  • I'd prefer hourly billing (unless a week of hourly is more expensive than a month prepaid)
  • I always seed to 200% and then stop
  • I don't anticipate using private trackers
  • I generally don't care how fast the torrent completes although it would be nice to pay more when I do.
  • 99.9% uptime is all I really need

VZ Type: ANY
Number of Cores: minimum
RAM: 2GB
Disk Space: 100GB
Disk Type: ANY
Bandwidth: 100GB down / 600 GB up (per month)
Port Speed: 200 Mbps
DDoS Protection: Yes
Number of IPs: 1
Location: DMCA free, 200ms ping from US-east (probably Europe)
The above should be a region, city, DC or AS number.
Budget: $5/mo but strongly prefer pay-as-you-go
Billing period: don't care

Thanks!

Get a vpn, it would be so much cheaper If you pay yearly. The big vpn providers have sales 24/7/365

Or get RealDebrid for like €2.5/month and use it along with Stremio

@wadhah I appreciate the VPN suggestion but since I'm an IT guy by trade I am far more comfortable with a box I can control and maintain (particularly the logs).

@Void Thank you. RealDebrid is interesting but I'm looking for VPS. As for Streamio, I don't need streaming.

$5/mo DMCA VPS? DMCA as a "feature" usually cost something, but if you can do yearly, maybe someone can offer you

however, i suggest you buy a normal VPS and using VPN on it, $3 VPS and $2-3 VPN will do the job

@Tange I like that idea in theory but I'm trying to avoid a DMCA notice because of a badly configured VPN.

OTOH it is nice though because then the only point of the VPS is to protect my home IP against the VPN leaking and that makes the VPS choice simpler. If I did that is there a particular VPN that is good for this or should I take this over to Reddit (r/VPNTorrents, etc.)?

Your budget is a bit lower for what you want.

    You can check our VPS:
    https://ava.hosting/vps/

All servers are located in Moldova
    Looking Glass: https://lg.ava.hosting

All plans from our website are DMCA Ignored including Dedicated Servers and others.

This is hard specially regarding your budget.

We can fit for some of your needs expect disk and your pricing.
    The rest is fine.

We have many locations in VPS, but your pricing is to low. You can get 4€ monthly VPS available only in Moldova location, but Port Speed will be 100Mbps instead of 200Mbps.

Check our VPS in many locations:
    https://alexhost.com/vps/vps-europe/

About the ping you can test (check all our locations in the looking glass)
    https://lg.alexhost.com

We have own Datacenter in Republic of Moldova, Network (AS20019) and Hardware.
    And also we allow Seedbox.

If you have more questions, feel free to contact us! o:) <3

  • Hey everyone... I appreciate all of the feedback. I thought I was just having trouble finding something but it looks like my wish list is unrealistic. I'm going to go back to the drawing board for a bit and find a more realistic approach and/or budget.

    Thanks!

P.S. consider this a vote for "I wish I could edit my post so people don't have to read to the bottom to find this although I understand why that's not really possible because of software constraints and behavior problems."

  • Why do you overcomplicated things?
    Just buy seedbox
    https://pulsedmedia.com/value10g-seedbox.php
    https://www.seedhost.eu/shared-hosting.php
    Both support public

If you want a VPS, get a hosting company which allows Tor exit relays on BitTorrent ports. Run an exit relay exiting to BitTorrent ports. Then you can torrent.

Note: this is probably illegal. I don't recommend doing it. Better off pay for a VPN or legal streaming service and cancel when you're done.

i don't torrent via VPN, so i don't know which one is better, i think major VPN service provider offer torrent VPN service, just try them out as they all have money back guarantee

  • @Tange Thanks! I will throw that option in the hopper. Are you in a non-DCMA-type place or do you have another way of protecting yourself?
