Google Summer of Code happening soon – $3000+ stipends for open source contributions
Hey LET,
For those of you who code and have some extra time, I wanted to let you know that Google Summer of Code is happening again. The way it works is that you pick an open source project to contribute to and when accepted work on implementing some feature for a few months. Google will pay you, as well as the organisation. Minimum this year is $3000, depending on location. So it's a win-win for the student and organisation.
As a backup hosting provider my company maintains the Vorta desktop backup client. We participate in GSoC via the Python Foundation. If you code Python and are interested in working on a Qt desktop app, have a look at this year's ideas page. Right now we're looking for one student, but could add a second if we find 1-2 extra mentors. Mentors don't get paid, but the PSF gets some extra funds for their grants program. So mentors will indirectly help improve the Python ecosystem. Main job of mentors is to review PRs and keep track of issues students are working on.
If interested to join as student or mentor, DM me any time. Best way to start is by reading our ideas page and submitting a small PR to the project.
Of course there are many other organizations and projects participating. So pick whatever you're interested in.
