ColoCrossing... $41.20 for a OS reload 😱

I'm in shock. I got a dedicated server with them last Black Friday through an offer posted here on LET.

Regarding their delivery, it took them about a week to set it up, and the server has been down a couple of times due to network issues—nothing too long.

However, last week, I needed an OS reinstall, and their panel did not work. So, I contacted them for assistance.

The OS reinstall was performed within 8-12 hours after my request.

And today, I received an invoice for $41.20 for that OS reinstall! I don't know if they mentioned this in their offers or even on their website, but they didn’t say anything about it in the ticket.

For me, that's unacceptable. I know my server is paid until November, but I won’t pay for that reinstall. I’d rather migrate to another provider than deal with these "hidden fees." As far as I’m concerned, no more Colocrossing for me—ever!

Rather you asked for support where is none. So they try to applicate fees for fast support, than delay some days.

Ticket and point out they mistakenly tried to charge you for their broken panel, maybe it's unintentional.

Yes, I opened a ticket with them, and I was told that their billing support is available from Monday to Friday. Despite not expecting any response other than 'Yes, it is a standard fee,' I will keep you posted.

They are fine, if there is something chargeable, they inform you in advance about it. Probably you missed something.

Many providers offer 1 free reinstall per month, each after that (manual installs) will be charged at a set fee because some customers will be reloading OS every few days to try other things and can be very time consuming if they are not all automated installs.

When the renewals went out for all the Black Friday server specials back in November, some people were shocked to see charges for OS reinstalls and such that had happened throughout the year. It looks like they removed all the charges for everyone.

Those old servers do not get delivered with IPMI information and the OS templates in the control panel are ancient, so what are you going to do?

    dammmmmmmmmmm

I haven't requested an OS reload since November (when I got the server), so this is not a frequent request or anything like that.

We have recently updated our invoicing process for one-time charges, such as bandwidth overages and remote hands services. Previously, customers on annual plans, including colocation services, were billed for these additional fees at the time of their annual renewal, often months after the services were rendered. To ensure more timely and transparent billing, these charges will now be invoiced shortly after the services are provided. The running of this cron for the first time did result in some older items being invoiced that had not been invoiced yet.

If you have received an invoice that you believe is incorrect particularly for services like OS reloads, which should not incur charges please send me a direct message with your ticket or invoice ID, and I will promptly void the charge.
