Asking for sponsorship on my Android builds

Hi, I'm sorry to have to ask you guys this kind of thing here, but if y'all could help me, I'd be very grateful...

I was wondering if some cheap but reliable VPS company could give me some kind of sponsorship for these servers themselves, because I have some projects I want to do and I don't have a decent machine for them.

I'm working hard to try and build Android ROMs for mobile devices (e.g. DerpFest and LineageOS) on a service called Crave, but what makes it terrible to use is their queue which makes it impossible to try and do anything there.

Imagine waiting 8 hours for the build to start, and when it does, it crashes in 3 seconds due to some problem on your end that you couldn't have fixed before because you had to wait all that time to find out.

I have no intention of abusing the servers or using them for anything other than what I want, or sharing logins (because I don't even have anyone to share them with).

Just making it clear that I don't have any money and that's why I'm doing this kind of post, otherwise I could look at the other discussions and see which would be the cheapest for me.

If any company/person wants to help me humbly, I'll give them all the credits I can, and even if it's weird, I'll try my best to get customers for the company/person themselves with my builds.

I'll leave you guys with a minimal but humble configuration in relation to the Android builds themselves:

  • A "recent" distro (could be Ubuntu 20.04 or above)
  • A reasonable amount of RAM (16 GB min, 32 GB or more for a "decent" build). The less RAM the machine has, the longer the build will take. Enabling ZRAM could be helpful, so storage will be needed on low-RAM enviroments.
  • And YES, storage space will be needed. At least more than 500-600 GB because of sources, cache and ZRAM (optional)

Anyway, if any administrator here doesn't like the post, feel free to delete it. I'm humbled if anyone can help.

Also, you guys can see all my work on my GitHub (personal: lucmsilva651 / Android builds: lukibuilds) or my Telegram channel (also lukibuilds) just to know more who I am.

Edit: the builds are for mobile devices, specifically for the Galaxy S10e

~ Lucas ;)

  • I think you should specify if its arm64 or intel/amd x86_64 of your target build or you accept any because you will cross-compile which require a lot of space, cmiiw

You could try invest a small amount to buy a tiny ryzen mini pc. On Aliexpress there are many such machines, as an eco and cheap solution for homelab.

If you targeting arm64 arch and hate to do cross-compilings, owning a Jetson AGX Orin 64GB would be coolest~

  • How long do you need the machine? It might help

  • just a suggestion but you could buy hetzner servers and use them on hourly basis the can cost like $0.6 or bit more approx with even 64 gigs of ram so if you know your build might not take too much hours then you can try that too

Interesting, I will leave this as an option on future ;)

Not really that much, as long the builds will run fast, at least some hours :sunglasses:

  • The hourly method seems like the way to go.
