Cheap, DDoS-protected VPS for uptime monitoring
Looking for a small and reasonably priced VPS for hosting a status page and monitoring uptime of services (e.g. Uptime Kuma) for a privacy and freedom-of-speech related project that attracts quite a bit of attacks. I'm kinda worried that potential attackers will also target the status page lol.
Requirements:
1 vCPU
1GB RAM
10GB SSD
DDoS Protection
Location: Europe or east coast US
Price: €30/year (not a hard limit, can be higher)
Comments
Keep the status page on a separate domain and make no mention of it
The OVH starter VPs is like £0.81 a month and will do for this
1 vCore
2GB RAM
20gb SATA SSD
Select “Starter” from OVH VPS page
£20/year for an EPYC Genoa (9004 series) 1GB VPS - link
or
£25/year for a London Ryzen 7900 1GB VPS - link
Backed by Corero DDoS mitigation
What about services like UptimeRobot, cloudns, Alerts.net ?
I don't think protection that's used for servers will help, people are still able to overload your server
Just put it behind cloudflare and keep it a secret, and get a cheap NAT VPS
Or use hetrix like a normal person

What sort of attacks?
Our business purpose aligns with your needs (pro speech, pro privacy). We can do this at your price point in NL.
Just protect the page from unwanted access, Authelia, htaccess etc.
Hi, you can check our VPS of 4€ monthly with Anti-DDoS Included Layer 4 (Moldova)
https://alexhost.com/vps/vps-europe/vps-moldova/
We have more locations if you can afford a little bit more expensive.
This plan of 4€ is only available at Moldova. No KYC, pay with crypto.
Best Regards,
Alexhost
Install flyctl: https://fly.io/docs/flyctl/install/
Create fly.toml (it uses sqlite, you can remove mounts if you want to use remote mysql/mariadb)
flyctl launch
For region (above config use singapore), check https://fly.io/docs/reference/regions
Based on my tests, it will crash because of out of memory if you have a lot of monitors. Tested on 46 monitors, and crashed after 1 day with 30s interval. My fly.io is on legacy hobby plan, it has 3 free 256MB VM. Haven't tested with swap, maybe it wont crash.
https://fly.io/docs/reference/configuration/#swap_size_mb-option
For alternative, you can use Koyeb, it has 1 free VM with 512MB memory. And you can combine with free MySQL from Aiven.
OP might want to test this.
Hi Voltrina,
Melbicom can offer the following:
CPU 1 core
RAM 2GB
Storage 20GB
There are several data centers in Europe and there is a DDOS protection option that can be requested.
The price is €46.80 per year.
You can take a look at https://www.melbicom.net/virtualserver/
I'm expecting Layer 4 attacks, as well as HTTP floods (which i will be mitigating myself via nginx ratelimiting and fail2ban). I don't have particularly high requirements, only basic protection from script kiddie booters.
We currently have this on offer

Hi,
Please Check our VPS:

All servers based in Republic of Moldova (Anti-DDoS from Voxility).
Kind Regards,

I think fly.io no longer has free plans: https://fly.io/docs/about/billing/#free-resource-allowances
Fly.io on legacy hobby account still has 3 free VM.
Yes, but only for old users. That's a pretty important detail.
I did say mine is on legacy hobby plan with 3 free VMs. So. That's why I said to use Koyeb with free 1 VM with more memory.
I am a full advocate for opensource projects, specially uptime kuma. However, I have personally found it not as reliable tbh, specially since it doesn't check/probe from multiple locations. If uptimerobot's free plan works for you, https://uptimerobot.com/pricing/ it is a great alternative, and includes a basic status page.
Just go for HetrixTools and don't look back.
Use UptimeFlare for free. Open source plus CF, a best defensive combination.
