I really like those tilde services. Maybe something like that?
There's also https://nekoweb.org/ as something similar.
My Experience with Free Hosting and Problems with Free Hosting
A lot of spam signups. I had to delete accounts in bulk since they signed up with domain names such as xyz1, xyz2, xyz50... Notably, you cannot stop them with any type of captcha since they were signing up manually and not using bots. A lot of bounced email reports since many users sign up with non-existent emails.
Many domains were not pointed to our nameservers or were expired. Some websites were hosting subdomains with a single page.
Plus, abuse reports every month, even if you use scripts to check for malware, spoof websites, etc.
How I Managed Them (free hosting:
1. Created a daily schedule for removing each type of spam signup. I also found and removed spoof/illegal websites to avoid multiple abuse reports each month, but you will surely get at least one abuse report on any given day.
Support: You have to provide support. Some free customers will open tickets for their issues.
Some bot signups have an automatic method of creating a ticket upon signup, such as "My account is not active," even when their account is active. They will never reply you.
Checking each website, DNS, customer details, etc. If you are sure that customer is genuine then allow them. If you find many bogus websites then remove them one by one or in bulk.
After doing all this, your profit will be negative.
I'm thinking about starting my own tilde service. Good idea or nah?
Give everyone a free package, except @emgh
@Verasel For the long term you need some income to at least cover the running costs. Inodes, iops, cpu, script exection, ... limits for free plans and a small fee for a premium package with a dedicated IP, much higher limits. Free users can't abuse so easily with such limits and power users would be happy too.
Can I try running sudo on this?
Straight to jail
porter 25 and sudo permanhostingly blocked
