Is there a good hypervisor for hosting fediverse apps?

Since a lot of them can be installed with docker, is there a good manager that supports docker?
Ploi is a bit expensive for my usecase but seems to be what I'm looking for.

Looking for a panel so I can use multiple servers or have multiple sites on one server easily.
So far I've looked into:
Yunohost
Runtipi
Caprover
Portainer
Coolify

Would any of these work? Lemmy, bookwyrm, akomma, peertube, friendica etc. are examples of what I want to host.
Right now I use enhance for wordpress and I'm looking for the closest experience similar to using that. I don't mind technical setup stuff, I just want to be able to manage and backthem up from one panel like when hosting anything else.

  • Coolify and dokploy seem good if you know how to use docker already but I had issues, will try again, think it was user error trying to install Lemmy.

Right now i'm using Runtipi and yunohost. They don't support managing/connecting to multiple vps though and are each on their own vps. Runtipi works well for masotodon and gotosocial, doesn't have much else in it's store. Yunohost is pretty great but the way it is setup it likely will never support being used as a panel for managing multiple vps, good to use on a single dedicated server to host multiple fediverse apps and control sites.

Runtipi has more potential, doesn't have Lemmy as a one click app yet tho. Also doesn't support managing multiple vps but may do so in the future (why im going to try coolify and dokploy again) Cosmos cloud ux wise I really liked and it supports connecting to multiple vps, however Lemmy in their store was outdated and that's the main thing I wanted to install easily after failing to do it manually.

Think the fediverse has a ton of potential, suprised there aren't more devs trying to cash in on the hosting side, plenty of less tech inclined people could want their own instances of mastodon, pixelfeed, peertube, etc. and be willing to pay for it.

  • YES! Dockge is amazing! You need to be a bit comfortable with docker compose files, they can seem scary a bit at first but just google stuff and you'll be fine, it's very easy to get the hang of it!

I just want to be able to manage and backthem up from one panel like when hosting anything else.

Take a look at this cosmos-cloud.io, it's docker management and a reverse proxy/user management

cosmos lemmy app is outdated and doesn't work, but yeah i didn't try manually there like i did coolify/dockploy, i was half asleep and the tutorials are apparently not great (for setting up lemmy)

I’m using both dockge and Coolify, and they both have their own advantages

The biggest problem I have with coolify is that they do not support custom commands for the containers, so if you need to pass any commands to it (e.g. using rclone docker), you’ll have to build your own docker image with that specific command baked in.

I do like their CI/CD integration though, and their auto db backup is also pretty useful

Long term I do think runtipi may be the best for ease of use and having up to date apps, just because of how it's set up, running komga and mastodon off of it, yunohost has a lot of issues, but I've been able to set up friendica, hubzilla, lemmy, streams, and mastodon (older version than runtipi) there fairly easy. Had issues with sharkey and misskey, but those may be universal rnow (effects more than just some fediverse apps) due to some update pushed somewhere, I have forgotten the specifics.
