Can't Access Server via FTP/SSH

arnoldzarnoldz Member

Somethin' happened, an' now I can't get on the server neither by FTP nor SSH. For FTP, all the data is correct, I've reset the password several times in the hostin' panel. For SSH, I've reissued the keys multiple times, but every time it don't accept my key. Just wanna point out, everything was fine before, I created keys the same way as now.

What can I do? I don't wanna reinstall the system.

Access the server from the provider's web console and take back what is yours.

I’m actually restoring/changing the root password and SSH keys in the provider’s panel. I’ve been using hosting since the 90s 🙂

Or do you mean VNC? I can not.

Weird. Has the right keypair updated in your config?

Have you tried using password authentication for SSH to see if that works as opposed to keys?

You're sure you haven't locked yourself out? (Fail2Ban etc.)

You can't because the provider doesn't offer it or because it's inaccessible via VNC? If it's inaccessible, then you should contact the provider, as it would mean there's an issue on the host machine's side.

I wonder why didn't you setup the key auth manually instead of going with provider's "panel", contacting your provider for assistance might be the only option if you can't log in to the machine with web console.

I have access to VNC, but I can't log in using the root login and the password generated in the hoster's panel.

  • I managed to get into VNC. Support said there's an option to copy and paste the password instead of typing it. Got it all working now, partner!

    I did it both ways.

Post all access details here and someone will eventually manage to access. They will give back your data. For sure. Yes.

I managed it myself, logged in via VNC. Thanks!

I'd still suggest contacting the provider. It doesn't really matter what caused it right now. The provider should know that a feature in their control panel (changing the root password) doesn't work.

To them, you could simplify it as if you're just trying to reset the password through the control panel and the password doesn't get changed.

    Edit: Glad it's now resolved!

Couldn't get the SSH and FTP connection issues fixed. Had to reinstall Ubuntu, set up FastPanel, and manually add and configure the sites again.

I spent a whole lot more time tryin' to fix that FTP/SSH connection issue. Reckon I should've just reinstalled the OS and the websites from the get-go.

    Usually that's the best option
