Backup download options from hosting panel

arnoldzarnoldz Member

Howdy! I got a VPS with Crunchbits, and I was fixin' to download a full disk backup, but their VirtFusion panel don't offer that—just the restore option. Y’all know if Clouvider or RackNerd got that kinda feature? And they gotta have rDNS setup too. Thanks a bunch, partner!

  • RackNerd has SolusVM, it does not have the option to download a backup. I have not seen this feature in other providers or with Virtfusion.

At RackNerd for rDNS, send a ticket, quick response ✔️

  • @onidel has that feature, most providers will also send you the disk image of your VM if you ask super duper nicely

I would like this feature to be included in the panel.

    Thanks for the mention @fluffernutter
Yes our panel supports rDNS, backup & snapshot download. You can also get the download url using our API.
It seems like you are looking for VPS in US? We do not have US location yet, but it should be ready in 1-2 months.

  • The more and more I read about onidel the more 'not LowEnd' they seems.
Have we struck gold for a decent VPS/Cloud company?! :D

  • At the moment, I’m only looking at VPS options from Clouvider or RackNerd.

They even provide an API for it.

Clouvider don't include any backups as standard but do have slots available at cost.

    £6 per 50GB at a glance.

  • Why don't you just load an ISO and make a full disk backup that way?

    Too complicated for me.

It's quite simple. Will boot into a GUI tool which you click buttons on. There are several options.

As you are new to this there is one very much golden rule:
You do not trust backup by provider and always have one more backup, to external place.
    Why?
If you forgot to pay - your server + backup will be nuked.
OVH put PAID, "external" backups in the same "datacenter" that services are there and we all know how that ended https://media.datacenterdynamics.com/media/images/ovhcloud_fire_SDIS_67_laurent_Schoenferber_4.o.width-358.jpg
Provider upstream had problems with billing portal, couldn't pay invoice, everything nuked - both servers and backups.

    and many many other stories.

Have external backup, providers backup is "nice to have", but it's not a backup.

  • @crunchbits can you please provide us the download option. Thank you
