The general idea was so that the VM was as close as possible to bare metal so I could dual boot into either windows or windows+VMs and have windows think the hardware was essentially unchanged when in VM apart from a couple of devices missing.

But no idea how that's going to work out yet.

You can passthrough maybe anything. I'm not sure about integrity of hardware in KVM virtualisation. You can fake it, passthrough it, even bypass some anticheat. I don't know how to make virtualisation identical to bare metal and that's probably the one of the only problems you may have.

Another problem is stability. I'm unsure if the KVM layer can make sure your virtualised computer can run as well as it does on bare metal.
