Would a project like Storj yield well on a server?

I've seen a lot of similar projects lately Storj, Sia, Züs ......

The main idea is to rent out your own unused storage space to generate revenue, have any of you tried it?

Using Storj (free tier) for several years, works great.

Eh, what is the link for Sia and Zus?

We have some users running Filecoin on servers with us I believe.

Hi, I didn't understand exactly what you mean. Are you talking about Collocation or what?

They stopped access for me saying that my 'free' time expired and I have to get a paid version to use it. I have less than 1 GB on it, barely used it.

Ditto, this prompted me to login as I've never been billed since that, and it appears I've been paying each month out of a mysterious credit balance I didn't know I had.

Still it's a cheap place to save back-back-stop backups, mine are only small 10's GB, so can't see how they'll even cover credit card charges when they do start charging me.

Isn't SIA just the coin for storj?

  • I think projects like Storj can be a great way to put your unused storage to work. I haven't personally tried it, but the concept of earning passive income from spare space is pretty appealing.

  • Tried storj with 5TB storage, first, it will take you a long time to get average payback (they want a stable node), second, your maintaining price should be lower than 1$/TB otherwise it will be hard to gain profit, also a good internet connection will dramatically increase the bandwith payback, which unit price is way higher than storing same amount of data. (after running over 6 month, my 5TB node will give me about 6$ per month, just able to cover my fee, stop running after that as I need to use that storage)

We had requests specifically for nodes to be used for Filecoin.

Sia and Storj are too different projects. Storj is much more advanced than Sia in my opinion (and has more storage utilization in network)
