How good is mxroute compared to something like tuta ?
Hello, i have more than 3 domains to use as custom domains. I find the legendary plan of tuta a bit expensive and im looking for cheaper alternatives.
I would like to know how is mxroute in terms of privacy and security ? Please keep in mind that I'm a novice when it comes to hosting email.
Can i use mxroute as an alternative to tuta ? Also how can i recive emails on phone and also generate aliases ?
Thank you for the help!

Mxroute @jar does support privacy, but if I recall correctly, there is no encryption on the server side.
I went with Tuta for my personal email (revolutionary) because of support for XMR payment (through proxysto.re) and server side encryption. But if you want a cheaper plan, more domains, and more flexibility with storage, choose Mxroute.
They’re more privacy focused, we’re more delivery focused. That’s not to say we don’t care about privacy, but I consider our mail stack to be common/average on that topic, where as services like that go much further toward that end.
As for your phone, all mail clients should support IMAP/SMTP. Aliases are called Forwarders in DirectAdmin.
MXroute is not advertised to be specifically targeting privacy/security enthusiasts whereas Tuta is. It does not mean that they aren't private or secure in any way, but there is no specific advertisement or expectation.
Company policy wise in respect to privacy:
Functionally the service is great and you can use it as an alternative to (almost any?) other email provider. What specific features are you looking for? Do you want a company that encrypts everything? Do you want a company that advertises GDPR compliance? What can you live without?
Any app you like, which supports IMAP or POP3.
Or in your browser (web interface is responsive).
In the control panel.
mxroute is good but they are NOT privacy focused - incognet offers free email with domain purchase and they are privacy focused @MannDude
For privacy focused email client I reccomend using fairemail on android - it is free to use for most features and while there are a few paid features - it is like $5 as a one time payment to unlock all of them forever.
I think it’s worth considering that email is inherently insecure. Wasn’t really ever meant to be a bastion privacy/security. Tuta/Proton/etc try (and do a decent job) but are limited in that they only control half the stack unless sender and receiver are both in house. “Secrets” and “confidential” info should probably be communicated using means designed specifically for privacy/security.
Having said that, I recently switched from forwardemail.net to mxroute and couldn’t be happier. Deliverability and stability have been rock solid. I’d highly recommend it unless there is some specific reason you need the encrypted solutions.
Yeah I always say I’d rather customers encrypt their own email and coordinate with their recipients, especially given that it’s the only way to actually secure it end to end anyway. And then anyone who tries to compel me to comply with demands, enjoy what you get 😂
Also MyPrivateInbox from @MannDude is set to launch beta (no set date but probably 2025 based on his comments).
i like mxroute and have no plans to stop using it. i bet @jar smells good
You’re not wrong. I smell like Diablo sauce.
crunchwrap supreme with creamy jalapeno sauce
tuta does not support smtp / pop - this is a nogo.
Did you read the CBC article about Tuta?
One was support proper protocol SMTP, but otjer wasnt
What did it say?
There were allegations that came out in court that they're an intelligence front. Tuta denied it, of course, and maybe it's just FUD. But it's worth reading the article yourself and considering it if you're interested in the service, I think.
(tuta) sounds like lavabit
Encrypted, super secure, RSA-8192 (why the fck not) and this happens:
One broken finger takes care of encryption in most cases.
That or just good old splinterry annus plug…
