My use case is selfhosting nextcloud, my personal website, YT frontend, notes server etc. I can only keep one of these please suggest which one to pick or what criteria to look at.

  • I'd go #1 over #2 without thinking twice.

    Depends on you needs.
    Both are stable.

If you need RAM and storage #2; if you need more CPU power #1.

we can't answer for you. If you can't choose, you don't need either.
So maybe would be a good idea to buy a cheaper VPS to save some money

I am also thinking of hosting https://github.com/hoarder-app/hoarder for saving stuff so storage space for videos was my concern in getting the second one.

I'd look into getting a separate, inexpensive remote storage you could mount to the faster VPS. Storage and RAM is cheap, Raw CPU power isn't.

Also gives you added flexibility if #1 doesn't work out for you...just change providers, re-mount your storage and you're on your way.

on this forum we're not very good at making choices either.
We all spend 2-3 times what we should just to keep all the servers.
Even the craziest ones probably spend 20 to 30 times what they should.

BUT If I had to keep just one server, I'd choose the 2. Because I don't need 10 servers to do what I want.
But I do need a lot of RAM and some storage to have fun and run whatever I'm running.
