?best provider for fully hosted nextcloud

  • I'm such a noob that I managed to screw up my nextcloud server on Ionos (which installs in one click from the panel, and usually updates with a click, but there was an update that required more steps and I've b0rked it).
  • I'd like to get a "fully managed" nextcloud server (IE even updating nextcloud is done for me; the).

    • I'd like ~512gb storage
    • I would prefer the ability to use nextcloud talk & collaberative office tools, although I don't use them much and they aren't a deal-breaker.
  • I'd like to be able to install apps from the nextcloud "app-store".

  • From what I can see the options are:

    • Hetzner (min 1tb, has nextcloud talk, requires one to run one's own server for collaborative office, EUR 5.15 incl 20% VAT)
    • Allsync (min 1tb, can't see any mention of nextcloud talk, nor collaborative office tools, oddly they barely mention the word "nextcloud" at all, EUR 4.83 incl 20% VAT)
    • ?Massivegrid (it isn't clear how much they charge for managed nextcloud, nor exactly what would be included).
  • I'm sure there must be others at/below this price bracket; I just haven't found them.

  • I'm happy to pay for n years up front to a reputable company
  • bonus points for built-in backup provision, and for contributing in any way to Nextcloud development.

  • I realise that the wise answer might just be to wait til tomorrow and see if Hetzner run a black Friday deal!

  • My thanks for any consideration anyone can give this.

I haven't used them for Nextcloud in particular and I haven't needed any additional storage (which they also offer) but just to throw out another option, I'd suggest checking Pikapods - https://www.pikapods.com/apps

  • I would recommend hetzner. They know what they do. You store probably sensitive data, and you don't want to lose it. Hetzner gives you good data protection and also a affordable price.

@SolidSeoVPS has a next cloud page here. However I don't know if it's manged or just pre-installed. Can you confirm it is @SolidSeoVPS ?
Spec you want is $10 a month (paid yearly) with BF coupon.
Aff link if your feeling nice

Here a list provided by nextcloud of providers https://nextcloud.com/partners/
You could also use nextcloud docker. If you use docker compose the updating is as simple as docker compose pull and sometime opening a shell in the container and running the commends it tells you in the update page in next cloud.

Hetzner for peace of mind. Having said that, during BF, you might find cheaper hosted storage offers with NC like features, but it wont be NC itself (and non recurring).

  • BaCloud offers their "BaCloud Drive" which is actually Nextcloud. I have no idea what features are installed but they have a free tier so I guess you can check it out before buying.
    https://www.bacloud.com/en/cloud-drive

Otherwise you could just get a vps with sufficient storage and run the Nextcloud AiO docker solution. Everything preconfigured, it has automatic updates and backups, and it will automatically deploy containers for talk, office, collaboration etc according to which checkboxes you tick.

    • I'm just blown away by the calibre and kindness of the answers here. My thanks to @Petey_Long (good thinking on pikapods, I think I can get. a better nextcloud deal but if & when they offer hosted piefed instances I'm going to be very tempted) @Specsblue @Kevinf100 ($10/month might be a bit much for me but I've scoured the nextcloud affiliate hosters per your advice and signed up to Deutsche Telekom's cloud to see what it offers, login awaited) @Arkas @rcy026 @CheepCluck (sorry about the bullet points)
    • I've also written asking for details of how "managed" the nextcloud instances are at datalix.eu and what capabilities they offer (~EUR 3/month for 500gb).
  • I switched from hosting my own Nextcloud to Hetzner's managed Nextcloud/Storage Share a while ago, and I'm really happy with it. The performance is fantastic, and the cost is surprisingly low.

The guy who runs Pikapods is here - @m4nu - if you happen to have any questions/comments

  • Haven't used it but https://bero-host.de/server/prepaid-nextcloud-mieten @berohost also provides Nextcloud.

  • Is there no reliable alternative to Hetzner in the €4-to-€5 price range, with at least OnlyOffice CE included?

    https://nextfiles.one/

had my nextcloud hosted there and only office ce was supported. They have an own server for only office you can use. Service was pretty solid. We were customers for some years until 3 months ago.

Nice! Nextfikes.one charge minimum EUR 4/month + VAT for 1TB.

I've signed up to datalix.eu (fully hosted nextcloud, one can install apps from the nextcloud "app store", min EUR 0.95/month + VAT for 100gb, I have yet to try setting up collaborative office tools and nextcloud talk).

I've signed up to hostbrr.com 500gb for EUR 7/month + VAT to try use as remote storage for the nextcloud instance.

Will report back if and when I get my poo in one sock.

  • Argh I meant EUR 7 per year + vat for 500gb storage box with hostbrr.

    Thanks Hostbrr!

We simply no longer needed it. No problem with the service

I'm sorry for the delay, I missed the message. Anyway, I had a look at the service: having OnlyOffice CE is good, but I would have to buy a 3-year plan to save money, and in that case I would still go for Hetzner probably (despite not having the office suite). I'm still searching for Nextcloud providers, but I'll keep Nextfiles in mind as alternative #1, so thanks for the suggestion.

  • You can also have a hosted Collabora Office instance integrated with (ie: connecting to) the Nextcloud instance if the Nextcloud service provider does not offer it.
