How many of you use the EFI partition with Linux and what do you use it for?

I understand that Linux these days install the EFI partition but I never took much note of it because most of my systems are usually upgraded from older OS versions rather than installed from scratch.

Normally I create a small OS installation for recovery purposes which I choose in Grub when needed or I use SystemRescueCD on its own or use to boot the recovery OS.

What do Debian and Ubuntu generally install in the EFI partition? Is it a minimized or minimized versions of the OS installations?

I noticed that when I create a template reinstall and I boot into the recovery console the system looks similar to the main OS and I wonder whether Debian and Ubuntu install a mini version of the main installation to the EFI system.

It could be just the providers template.

The partition structure seems to be similar to the main OS installation.

How much space do guys reserve for the EFI partition if they have a use for it on Linux?
