How much RAM does Mail In a Box require?

How much RAM does Mail In a Box require?

The setup guide says

You must choose the Ubuntu 22.04 x64 (server edition) operating system and a machine with at least 512 MB of RAM.

Has 512Mb proved adequate from experience?

Just grab a server with 1GB of RAM. Offers with 512MB are quite rare anyway.

Why complicate your life if there is less than 1 euro per month email services?

Maybe he wants to test and learn stuff.

  • 1GB is enough if you are running a personal server for a few people with humble traffic.

I've got some lightly used VPS I can run it on and it will cost me nothing. If I get tired of it I can transfer them to a proper mail service account which is lying idle.

And I can probably get a cheap yearly offer for roughly the same price.

There are much more valuable things to learn.

Sure but for 8 euros year or so.......but well you may be right

  • I was running my own mail server on my dedicated back in the late 2000s. I'm just tired of being ripped of my Dreamhost as I've been too lazy or preoccupied to transfer to a new host.

Who are currently the cheapest providers offering yearly VPS and located in the UK or Western Europe?

I did not read the earlier replies so if my reply is redundant, my apologies. @k9banger

When the installation guide was written MiaB would indeed work with 512mb RAM.

However, Ubuntu has become bloated and will no longer install on a VPS running less than 1gb RAM, unless you know how to do some special magic ... so the right answer is 1GB.

Because the only truly private email hosting is one you host yourself: at home, on aws nitro, or on a dedi without side channels

IMHO stands for "in my humble opinion". Using this is redundant. This is a forum of discussions made usually in public, therefore when someone posts a comment or a reply, it is safe to assume their post represents their own view or their own opinion, unless stated otherwise. As such, specifying something like this would be quite pointless (in my humble opinion - you get the point).

And on another note, I hate abbreviations (in my humble opinion). We live in a digital world where texts are simple bytes in database which can afford to be quite large. There is no space on stone to save, there is no ink to save, no paper for you to save the trees and no short messages by phone to pay for. This is a forum, so please be free, let yourself go, and write the full length of the sentences and the expressions, to transmit as much as you can and as clear as you can from your opinions and your thoughts. LowEndTalk has powerful servers available and lots of space available for the storage of its database.
