Are there any project ideas which might help LET users?

Sorry for sounding cliché but I was wondering if there's like "oh I wish we could have that" kind of a thing among us. We all use yabs pretty much all the time so something similar to it. The reason for asking it is that I have a whole month of free time (just resigned because work was very stressful) and I wanted to make something for the good folks of LET

  • For the start, we could make something like email server. from LET, By LET, for LET. Make it cool and can easily remembered with a cool domain, with blackjack and hooker.

I'm struggling to see the actual use case. But yeah, we could use mailinabox to self host which would definitely land on everyone's spam box!

  • Something similar to Google docs would be awesome. I am aware Cryptpad exists but it is super limited in functions, unfortunately.

  • I would like to have a modern console configuration showcase, in a form of a server where you could ssh in and it presents you with convenient setup, with a tutorial on how to use it and how could it be set up on your own server.

I'm talking about less-known utilities, settings, etc, everything which improves quality of life in the console.

What about sandboxes / jails with a specific use case?

If not, I think there might be demand for a universal (provider) host uptime / status monitor that is independent of hosts themselves (transparent).

  • Maybe an automated bash script to install & optimize resource usage of small VPSes, like https://lowendbox.com/blog/yes-you-can-run-18-static-sites-on-a-64mb-link-1-vps/

I want to make a tool that automatically determines whether a server has on-link or routed IPv6.

I'm starting a new podcast called LowEndCast which will be featured on LEB TV! It'll give good opportunity for providers to interface with the community and other people to come on and speak about topics. Thought this would be related to this thread lol

And all the NDP filtering crap we've discussed recently please.

host lowendtalk feed for thread and user's discussions

  • I can think of a couple things I'd like to see

    1) A bash script that makes managing iptables rules via command line easier (add/remove, bulk add/remove, easily add blocklists etc...)

    2) A network-speed.xyz-esque script with the ability to select how many servers you want to test and specifically, which locations you want to test. Another cool feature would be the ability to test between your own servers. Run the script on two servers - it autoconfigs the firewall to allow connection, autoconfigs iperf, you type in the IP to the corresponding server and it runs a speedtest and then cleans itself up when it's completed.

Speaking as someone who has recently suffered significant burnout (as much related to a few years of family illnesses and other personal concerns as to work stress, so perhaps my case isn't massively similar to yours) and had to take remedial steps to mitigate it, if the environment you are leaving was that stressful I would be inclined to do anything other than techie stuff between jobs (assuming your day jobs are tech based), as a bit of a mental palate cleanse before starting the new position.
